Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 25: Cat and Dog ②

Juicy-san wasn’t in her maid outfit this time — she was dressed like when we first met at the garbage dump.

A refined black jacket. A white frilly apron dress, but with a red skirt.
On the apron dress, there was a striking red ribbon tie.

She really did look like an idol wearing a stage uniform.
And it suited her perfectly, too. Though she was also wearing black fingerless leather gloves on both hands.

Her dog — no, wolf — ears were standing up straight, and her fluffy tail was wagging back and forth.

She stared at me with her usual sparkling eyes.

Her whole body was radiating: I’m so happy, I’m so happy!

Ah… as always, she’s totally a dog.

“I came here to have some gauntlets made.”

“Woof! Um, gauntlets? That’s perfect for you, Wof-sama!”

“R-Really?”

“Yes, woof! They’ll be absolutely, absolutely perfect for you!”

Her tail wagged so fiercely it stirred the air. Was she really that happy?

“Wof-sama?”

Suddenly, I heard a cold, sharp voice.

When I turned around, Pakira-san was looking at us with icy, freezing eyes.

Terrifying.

“U-uh, I, um… I tried to explain, but Juicy-san wouldn’t listen…”

“Um, woof! Wof-sama is Wof-sama!”

“Oh? Wof-sama, is it. And you are… what, exactly?”

S-Scary. Pakira’s slit-shaped cat pupils locked sharply onto Juicy-san.

“Um, woof. I am Juicy Tasan.”

“Tasan, you say…”

“Um, um, Wof-sama, do you know this cat… Pakira-san?”

“Y-Yeah. We know each other.”

“Wof. So, this dog… Juicy, what’s your relationship with him?”

“U-uh, yes. We know each other.”

“I see.”

“Woof.”

Scary. What’s with these two? The tension between them was suffocating, like invisible sparks flying through the air.

Why are they already clashing on their first meeting? Is it because one’s a cat and the other’s a dog? That’s… ridiculous, right?

“Oi, what’re you all doing?”

A savior — a new voice cut in.
It was a dwarf. Which meant, a man.

He had a bushy white beard and a large burn scar around his left eye.

Even through his tattered work clothes, his muscular, sturdy build was obvious. Blacksmithing is definitely a job of strength.

The dwarf looked over at Pakira-san.

“Oi, Pakira. So you’ve come.”

“Velend. I heard the repair was finished.”

Velend-san. Velend, the blacksmith — the owner of the shop.

“Yeah. Fixing that thing was a hell of a job. Hold on, I’ll go get it. And as for you — ah, Tasan’s… it’s already done. Now, kid, what about you?”

Velend-san turned his sharp gaze toward me.

“I was introduced by Alifa-san.”

I said, handing him the letter of introduction.

Velend-san read the letter and let out a snort.

“Alright, kid. So what do you want me to make?”

“Gauntlets.”

“Okay. Got the materials?”

“Here.”

I pulled out the fragments of the Great Tusk Blade from my pouch.

When Velend-san saw them, his expression immediately changed.

“Well, well. Not bad. I’ll make you gauntlets out of this.”

“Thank you very much.”

“Right. But in this shop, you pay upfront.”

“How much will it be?”

“One million Oro.”

“O-One million…!?”

I was speechless.

One million!?

“Velend. Don’t you think one million is way too much?”

Pakira-san protested.

“Um, um, one million… it costs that much?”

Juicy-san chimed in too.

Velend-san let out a deep sigh.

“Seriously, kid. Where the hell did you get Mazan materials like the Great Tusk Blade?”

“A friend gave it to me. They told me to get gauntlets made from it.”

“Hmph. Must be nice to have such laid-back connections. Listen, kid — and you two, Pakira and Tasan — if you’re using Mazan materials, you need equally rare and durable materials to match, or it won’t hold up. That’s why it costs so much.”

“So that’s the reason…”

It’s like cooking — if you’re working with luxury ingredients, you need other high-quality ingredients to match, or the whole dish falls apart.

Velend-san added:

“Sorry, but business is business.”

“I understand.”

I had no choice but to accept it.

Then Pakira-san spoke.

“…Hmm. So one million will do, right?”

“Pakira-san?”

She pulled a small silk pouch from her bag and placed it on the blacksmith’s counter.

What’s she…?

She took out ten coins and laid them in a row.

They were golden, octagonal coins that glinted brilliantly. Pure gold?

At the center of each coin… wait, is that… a diamond embedded in it?

What the heck. Are those even real coins? I’ve never seen anything like that.

Velend-san’s voice trembled.

“Royal Coin.”

“Huh?”

“Um, um, there’s no mistake — it’s a Royal Coin!”

Juicy-san added.

T-This is that top-tier currency.
A Royal Coin… if I remember right, one coin is worth 100,000 Oru.
A single coin equals 100,000 yen. And there are ten of them.

That’s one million. No way. Seriously?

“This should be enough, right?”

“…Yeah. It’s enough, but…”

Velend-san looked flustered.
And honestly, I had no idea what was going on either.

A-Anyway, this isn’t right.

“Wa-Wait a second!”

I said, stopping them.

“What is it, Wof?”

Pakira asked.

“‘What is it?’ — Pakira-san, I can’t possibly accept a whole million like this!”

No matter what, even from Pakira-san, I couldn’t just take one million Oro.
I was about to say that out loud when—

“Um! Um, um, please wait! If it’s for Wof-sama, I can pay too!”

Saying that, Juicy-san placed another ten Royal Coins on the counter.

As expected from a marquis’ daughter — she casually slapped down another million Oro.
But no, that’s not the point!

“Hey, hey, hey! What the heck is going on here!?”

Velend-san clutched his head in confusion.
And so did I.

“Juicy. Don’t butt in unnecessarily. I’ll be the one paying.”

“Woof, um, I’ll pay! It’s only natural if it’s for Wof-sama!”

Pakira-san and Juicy-san squared off, ears and tails standing straight, glaring at each other.

“MyaaaAAAA!”

“Growwwwllll!”

A cat and a dog!?

Why are these two competing so hard over this?
No, more importantly — a million Oro… as a man, I have to stand firm and refuse—

“You two, this is really—”

“Wof!”

“Wof-sama!”

“Eh, wh-what?”

Both of them turned to me at the same time and closed the distance all at once.

“You’re going to use my million Oro, right?”

“Hey, wait—!”

“Um, um, woof! You’ll use my million Oro, won’t you? Right?”

“Wait, hold on, I—!!”

Too close!
Both of them are way too close!
Two beautiful girls, in my face, way too close!!

“…Right?”

Right? — don’t ask me like that!!
