Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 41: End of Vacation

Summer is when the forests of unexplored areas grow lush green leaves.

Finally, I managed to take some quiet time and wandered aimlessly around Malhas.

Although I can’t help but feel a little lonely at the completely different scenery from my childhood, the bustling Malhas now is not bad either.

Above all, the current Malhas doesn’t give me suspicious looks or seem annoyed even when I walk around.

This place has become quite comfortable.

“Even though it’s been a while since you had a break, are you bored?”

“Rolo, huh. As you can see, I’m enjoying my leisure time. If Saran comes up with something, I’ll be busy again.”

In response to my words, Rolo takes out a piece of paper with a troubled expression.

I recognize this. It’s a magic scrap of paper used for messenger birds.

“From Saran.”

“That guy, what does he think my vacation is for?”

Despite Kati managing to carve out my holiday for me.

This is ruining it.

“It seems urgent since he’s asking me to find you.”

“What, you don’t know what’s inside either?”

“It’s addressed to you, Jurg.”

While saying so, Rolo eagerly peers into it with curiosity.

As if he were a childhood friend, I carefully unfold the neatly folded piece of paper.

The written characters are somewhat elegant and difficult to understand.

“Rolo, can you make sense of this?”

“It’s the unique cryptic script of the nobility. Let’s see… ‘Regarding the visit schedule to Malhas. Second week of Gold Ram Month. Marquis Ludger Efron.'”

” Marquis Efron… Wasn’t he the ‘close relative’ of Viscount Hilte?”

“Yeah. In other words, it seems like the de facto ruler of this territory is coming to visit.”

Ignoring the question of why he hasn’t come until now… ‘Second week of Gold Ram Month’ means it’s already tomorrow or the day after.

That’s too hasty.

There’s a possibility of a surprise visit, but indeed, I have no choice but to go to Saran’s place.

“I’ll go to Saran’s. I’ll also have to issue a security request to the adventurers.”

“And secure accommodation. I’ll contact my mother first and then go!”

Nodding to each other, we rush through the streets where adventurers and merchants come and go.

At times like this, my best friend’s attention to detail is quite helpful.

“See you later!”

“Yeah.”

Rolo runs towards a three-story inn that blends into the new townscape.

Seeing him off, I hurried to Saran’s office.

Although I’ve never guarded a dignitary before, there will probably be several requests posted by the Adventurers’ Guild.

Depending on which areas the Marquis visits… we also need to consider the possibility of wanting to see the Deep Surveillance Outpost.

Anyway, nobles are unpredictable.

“Saran, I’m here.”

“Vacation’s over. It’s unfortunate.”

Come to think of it, he’s also on vacation.

Like me, his forcibly created vacation has been ruined, and I may be a little sympathetic… I was a fool for thinking so.

He’s laughing about it.

“Well, the big shot who couldn’t ignore this place is finally coming.”

“You seem to be enjoying this.”

“Well, we’ll see, won’t we? It’s natural to be a little curious about what intentions they’ll come with to this border town, which they’ve left to fend for itself without any aid.”

He’s making a wicked face.

It looks like he’s saying everything’s all sorted out.

Perhaps I should be glad I enjoyed my vacation?

“We’ll issue requests for guard duty and vigilance at the Adventurers’ Guild. Depending on their response, the number of requests we put up may change. What’s your opinion?”

“I’ll bring some men for guard duty and leave it to the Malhas Patrol Squad. For vigilance, scouts will be deployed mainly to the new town and the shallow layers of the forest. Let’s prepare for any possible monster incidents.”

Roughly what I expected.

But there’s something I need to ask.

“Do you know what they’re coming to inspect?”

“No, all the information is in the paper bird I just gave you. Are they underestimating us…?”

“They’re probably testing us. What do you think?”

“Both, perhaps? There’s probably some expectation that Zolark’s second son, who has acquired the border, will be there. However, there’s also a feeling of uncertainty about whether the ‘saint’ and the pioneer city of the ‘hero,’ who are prepared for ‘culling,’ will contribute to their achievements, don’t you think?”

Nobles are still all about money and achievements.

From the conversation, it seems that Marquis Efron isn’t the type to be admired.

So, I have to be prepared for that.

If I accidentally offend him or something, it could turn into a mess.

“Nevertheless, it’s a good thing. It’s fortunate for me that this pioneer city has become a topic too big to ignore.”

“Hmph, a result-oriented person, huh? Well, make good use of me. Make sure you don’t let any nobles get killed in a mishap, okay?”

“Make sure to remind me so that no accidents happen. This is a rough-and-tumble pioneer city, after all.”

I lightly laugh and, from behind me, Rolo rushes in.

“Guys, it’s bad! The marquis’s carriage is already visible!”

“What?”

“Did we overdo it with the road maintenance?”

It seems to be that kind of problem, but considering the recent development of this area, it doesn’t seem entirely wrong.

However, without any preparation, having to accept it is throwing off my plans a little.

“Saran-san…even Rolo and Jurg-san.”

“Fimia, change into a nice priestly outfit. The first impression is crucial for these things.”

“Then Jurg should do it too, right? If he’s going to stand next to Fimia, he should wear formal attire!”

Come to think of it, that’s true.

Ah, damn… such a hassle.

“I’ll go to greet them. Rolo-san, take the patrol squad and handle security and organization on the main street. You two change and come out at the right timing.”

“That’s a pretty rough instruction coming from you, Saran.”

“I’ve said it before, but my pieces are lively, so they perform better without a script.”

With his glasses pushed up, Saran smiles faintly.

So even he’s in combat mode now.

“Alright, then… let’s start moving. Take care, everyone.”

“You too.”

“Let’s do our best.”

“Um, I’m not sure what’s going on, but I’ll do it!”

We lightly fist-bump with the four of us and nod to each other.

We’ve already overcome ‘culling’ twice, so there’s nothing to fear.

Even if there is, we should be able to overcome it.

“…Alright, ‘Mercia,’ let’s go!”
