Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 48: What Grace Leaves Behind

The next morning, I came with Vigna to the flatland on the outskirts of the village. Galatea was cleaning up various things, and a woman from the village caught us and asked us about cooking. She’s a robot, after all, and is in good spirits even though she had worked all night yesterday.

Ein and Gimli are patrolling around the village. It may have been safe in the past, but there were monsters in the forest that only existed in the mines. It would be best to be vigilant. Neil, who had been drinking with him, was suffering from a hangover, and yet he was a Dwarf with a strong drinking habit. Besides, they were back in their hometown. They must have a lot on their minds.

And we were preparing to go out to the fields with a spade, fertilizer, and potatoes.

“I never thought I’d come all this way to farm….”

“You missed it, right? We started in Asgard with potatoes.”

“Well…… then…..”

She chuckles, then looks at me with amused eyes, pointing to the potatoes and asking.

“What is this potato plant?

“Hahaha, it can’t be helped. I’ll explain it to you, you stupid, muscle brain.”

“Oh? I’m going to crush it. Just kidding.”

While we were laughing at the same old exchange, the village chief, who got the message from Ein, came over. His daughter Miranda was with him. For some reason, he seemed nervous.

“I’m Miranda, the daughter of the village head. I heard about you from Ein-san and my father. Thank you for saving us and giving us food.”

“I’m glad you are safe. Are you able to walk again?”

“Yes, thanks to you, I’m fine now. The potatoes you gave me yesterday are amazing. Somehow they have restored my strength too.”

“That’s because those are special potatoes, and it doesn’t usually happen that way.”

Miranda looks at me with the same enthusiasm as if she were staring at a miracle from God, and I laugh. Fertilizer and potatoes are really dangerous……

Incidentally, this time the fertilizer was made from orcs that boast of their physical strength, so they have more resilience than usual. It seems that the various fertilizers I have been secretly using to grow my crops have been of immediate benefit.

The village chief, with a nervous look on his face and a coughing fit, spoke.

“With Grace-sama’s help, the village has come back to life after a long time, and everyone is smiling again. So, what is it that you want us to do for  you?”

“Ah, there’s something I want you to see. How was the potatoes from yesterday?”

“Yes, they were filling and tasty, and the villagers were very happy with them. Potatoes are a wonderful thing. I’m sorry, are you talking about the potatoes?”

“Yes and if it’s alright with you, I was wondering if you would allow me to plant some potatoes in your village. I would be happy to help.”

“I appreciate your kind words, but we’re short of manpower in our village, and we don’t know if we’ll be able to survive the next season.”

The village head muffled his words, as if he was having trouble saying them. In short, he probably means that he can’t even afford to try something new. But I know that, too.

“Don’t worry, If you use the fertilizer we made in our territory on these potatoes, you can harvest them tomorrow. See, just like that!”

“What is ……?”

The village chief and Miranda’s astonished voices echoed. I showed them the potatoes I planted with Vigna last night and they had already sprouted. It’s been a long time since I’ve enjoyed farming. I knew my special straw was good. It was so easy to plow!

“We’ll probably be able to harvest tomorrow. And if you eat these potatoes, your strength will mysteriously and temporarily increase.”

“Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!”

“Well, that’s how it is…”

The village chief shouted in disbelief.

Miranda, on the other hand, stared intently at the field……

“It’s true. Look dad, they’re already sprouting! Now we won’t have to go on any more crazy hunts! Thank you!”

She exclaimed, her voice trembling with emotion.

She must be adapting quickly because she’s actually feeling the effects of the potatoes. And the orc fertilizer should be compatible with the dwarves. Once the lost strength is restored, the dwarves will be able to use it to their full potential, and farming and various other tasks will go smoothly.

“Galatea is probably teaching the villagers how to cook and so on. Please refer to that.”

“Thank you for everything. I had heard rumors of Asgard’s inventions, but I didn’t expect that they were as good as this, potatoes are amazing!”

“Well, it’s not so much the potatoes as the fertilizer that’s so amazing…….”

I prodded the village chief, who seemed excited. When he and Miranda saw the sprouts growing on the ground, they were excited. But when he saw my face, he looked apologetic and opened his mouth.

“I hate to say this after all you’ve done for us, but our village doesn’t have enough to repay this favor.”

“Oh, these potatoes and the fertilizer are our thanks for the sake you served to our soldiers. If we want more in the future, we may take money from you, but only after your village becomes more prosperous. Oh, but yes, if possible, if there are any dwarves who wish to emigrate, even women, I would be happy to introduce them to Asgard.”

“By the way, just so you don’t get the wrong idea, this guy’s goal is to Dwarven Processing Technology, so don’t worry.”

Vigna quickly added to my words. Oh, yeah, it’s the same as with Noel. Don’t get me wrong. Dwarf women are popular with the type of people who like childlike women because of their body structure…

I don’t think of it that way, so I just let it slip from my thoughts.

“It’s fine if that’s what you’re after…. You really are like a savior.”

“Dwell and my country are allies, don’t worry about it.”

I chuckled at the village chief’s exhale of relief. Oh, so the reason he was nervous earlier was because he was wary of my demanding the cost of the potatoes and other things here.

By the way, sorry to the village chief, but even I’m not working with 100% good intentions. It’s precisely because they’re now in a poverty situation that I thought it was an opportunity to spread the potatoes. If the reputation of the potatoes and fertilizer spread from this village, more and more people in other towns in Dwell will want to do business with Asgard.

And if this could be used as an opportunity to get dwarves interested in Asgard and emigrate, processing techniques would increase, and the creation of guns, steam cars and new inventions yet to be seen would be much.

“You’re making a mischievous face….”

“Oops, excuse me.”

Vigna’s words brought me back to my senses. I was lost in my thoughts.

“I’ll be back again on my way home, so let me know if you have any problems and I’ll show you how to use the fertilizer.”

“Yes, thank you very much. I’ll be ready for the banquet then!”

“Thank you so much, Grace-sama. You saved not only my life, but also the village…..”

And so we thought the village chief and Miranda how to handle the potatoes and fertilizer while receiving words of thanks from them. It had been a while since I had been farming, but it was still fun.

“Thank you very much.”

When we left in the afternoon, all the villagers gave us a lift. I guess that’s how useful the potatoes were. While I was thinking how nice it was to be thanked, there was a knock at the window of the steam car.

Outside were Ein and Gimli, who looked unusually serious.

“What’s the matter, you two?”

“I’ve come to speak to Grace-sama. Is now a good time?”

“We’d prefer not to be heard by too large a crowd if possible….”

“Yes, that’s fine. Vigna is listening too, is that all right?”

“Yes, of course.”

“Excuse me.”

If they’re are coming all the way to the steam car, is there something you don’t want anyone else to hear? I open the door and invite them in.

“Grace-sama, will you listen to my request?”

Of course, I’m willing to listen to what the people have to say. I can’t say everything, as you might expect…”

“No,… I’m speaking to you not as a temporary resident of your country, but as a former nobleman of Dwell.”
