Chapter 11: The Guardian chain

The next night I was hiding with Vigna and Galatea. Without realizing it, the goblins came back and tried to climb up the mud wall screaming "Guga !?. And when they failed and fell to the ground, they stared at it resentfully and left.

"Hahahaha, you see, Vigna? This is the Guardian Chain I've developed.”

"No way, the goblins just gave up and left? Is this a… stinger?"

“That's right. I wrapped it around the top of the earthen wall so that the monsters can't climb it. It's amazing."

I wrapped a line of mithril alloy that was pointed like thorns around the top of the mud wall. If you forcibly put your hand on it, you’ll get pierced and injured. This way, sub-human monsters will not be able to invade.

“Sure… this is amazing. Even if we're not on guard, the monsters won't be able to bypass it. But how did you do it in one day?”

“Oh, I told Bowman and he was all over it. Galatea was the one who did the wrapping.”

“So, You didn't do any of the work.”

When I explained it to her proudly, Vigna said with a scoff. The look of respect she had for me just disappeared.

“I invented it! No, it's true that it was just my idea and I didn’t do any of the work, but people have their own strengths and weaknesses.”

“Yes, it was only with Master's direction that I was able to do this. That's a great piece of barbed wire, Master.”

“Right! You see? Galatea here, unlike some violent woman, understands how amazing I am. Wait, what's a barbed wire? No way! Do they have this in the other world?”

“Yes, my father made it so that the monsters and animals wouldn’t come to the vegetable garden.”

Unlike Vigna who had a disappointed look on her face, my mood was lifted by Galatea, who complimented me honestly, but in return, I heard a strange word. The guardian chain I developed had already been invented in the other world. But I still had a trump card.

“Wait, wait, there's more to this. Why do you think I dared to use mithril alloy instead of iron? The reason is simple! Vigna, I need you to cast a lightning spell on that guardian chain please.”

"Eh… Oh, alright. “Arm of the thunder god!””

Lightning struck from Vigna’s hand after the chant and when it hit the chain of guardians, the lightning spread all over in an instant. Mithril has the property of conducting magic, so the wires will remain charged for a while.

“This is the power of the original guardian chain! A collaboration of physical damage from metal spikes and magical damage! What do you think, Galatea? Does this also exist in the other world?”

“It's amazing! This is an electric fence. It’s okay as long as there’s no monster like a fire dragon around here.”

“Oh! But there is no magic in the other world, is there?”

“Yes, but we have generators instead and we generate electricity from them.”

The other world's civilization is terrible, I exclaimed, clutching my head in complete defeat. I thought it was a genius idea, but it seems to have already existed.

“Even if it exists in a different world, at least you're the first person in this world to come up with the idea. You should be more confident."

“Thank you Vigna! You give me an honest compliment once in a while.”

It was a rare moment where Vigna consoled me, perhaps because I was so depressed. But there's no problem because it all starts here…

“Well, it’s about time. We’re about to run out of money, so let's go make some! Since we have the materials from monsters, these unusual potatoes that recover magic power and this mithril alloy, we should be able to make some money.”

I declare in high spirits. The materials we got from monsters are things that are often traded in this country and potatoes that taste good and restore magic power should be in high demand for both people who don’t use magic on a daily basis and those who do. The mithril alloy can be used in a variety of ways depending on the application, as I just demonstrated. If you're smart, you'll realize its usefulness.

"Well, they'll certainly sell, but I wonder if they'll cause the business association to try and deal with us.”

"You may have forgotten this, but I'm a member of the royal family. If I give my name, they won't turn me away. And I won’t have to pay the gate fee in advance.”

I smiled in triumph. Yes, the time for cultivation is over and the development of my territory will begin here by peddling with the outside world.

“Vigna consoled me with pity, but I'm sure merchants will realize the value of these things! If the business deal goes well, we'll have a feast! We'll drink and I'll buy those sugary cookies that Vigna likes so much. Tell me if you want anything Galatea, You've been a big help to me."

"Hmmm, I sense hope from the Master.  I’m glad. You’ll definitely succeed

in the business negotiations!”

She smiles happily as I stroke her head in honest admiration. I can't betray this expectation.

So, this is my first time in business. I have to do my best not to make mistakes. I dream of a glorious future and brace myself.

“I'm not trying to comfort you, I really thought it was great. Grace is an idiot.”

"Oh, really? Thanks."

“Why are you thanking me!?”

“Your reaction is unreasonable!”

When I replied to Vigna, for some reason, I got a glare from her and she turned bright red. Isn’t it awful?
