Chiffon is the name of Rest's deceased mother. This butler was a colleague of Rest's mother and had treated him kindly due to that connection.

"She was taken advantage of by the master, impregnated, and then driven out... Many servants were worried. Although I couldn't do anything in front of the master..."

"...It's fine. You provided me with meals and medicine, didn't you?"

The butler continued speaking with a hint of sadness in his voice.
