Chapter 305: The Wyvern’s Nest

Carried up the mountain by Yuri for just under five minutes, Rest and Yuri finally spotted wyverns near the summit — just as the information they’d received had suggested.

There weren’t just one or two. They discovered a nest within a caldera-like depression at the mountaintop, with countless wyverns flying around it.

“Oh, it’s all-you-can-eat! There’s tons of them!”

“The fact that’s your first thought is honestly terrifying, Yuri…”

Rest sighed, watching Yuri stay completely unfazed even while hiding behind a rock.

Indeed, if they could take down all those wyverns, it would be a feast beyond imagination. You could serve wyvern meat to hundreds — thousands — of people.

But Rest wasn’t here to drive wyverns to extinction or start a buffet restaurant. They had simply come to procure a suitable ingredient for their party.

“We can’t carry them all back anyway. One is plenty. But going up against all of them would be a massive hassle.”

There were easily over a hundred wyverns. Defeating them all wasn’t impossible — for example, if he cast [Flame God’s Wrath], he could annihilate them in one blow. Or even use [Amaterasu] to sweep them away.

However, that would incinerate the ingredients too, making the whole effort pointless.

“But… if we attack even one, the rest will probably swarm us. We’d end up having to fight them all anyway. If only we could somehow snatch one away without the whole group noticing…”

They could try waiting for one to separate from the flock, but it was already nearing dusk. While some wyverns were returning to the nest, none were leaving it.

With their guide gone too, Rest wanted to finish this hunt and get down the mountain as soon as possible.

While he was deep in thought, Yuri confidently pounded her chest.

“Alright then, I’ll be the decoy! While I distract them, you capture a wyvern and make a run for it!”

“Wait—absolutely not! No way!”

Rest frantically waved his hands at the outrageous suggestion.

“I can’t let you do something that dangerous!”

“Why not? I could outrun a wyvern no problem.”

“Even if you’re fast, I’m not letting you take that risk. I can’t make the woman who’s going to be my wife into bait!”

Rest declared it as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

Yuri immediately clutched her chest.

“Ahh…! That made my heart flutter!”

“Glad to hear it…”

“Want a reward hug? You can even touch my boobs a little, just a little?”

“No thanks… I’ve had enough of your hugs for a while…”

He’d just been forcibly carried like a sack of potatoes. That human roller coaster was not an experience he wanted to repeat.

The offer to touch her chest was tempting, but he didn’t want the wrath of the Rosemary sisters. He’d behave himself until after marriage.

“Still… the decoy strategy might actually work.”

“Hmm? But you can’t be the decoy, Rest. That’s absolutely not happening.”

“Yeah, I wasn’t planning on it. I’m talking about a diversion — not bait.”

Rest began sorting through spells in his mind — techniques he’d learned during training with Deeble, magic he’d studied at the academy, and the barrier techniques taught by the legendary warding master, Jarana Meitis.

If he could adapt those spells properly, it might be possible to distract the wyverns without drawing the whole flock’s wrath.

“Listen closely, Yuri. Here’s the plan: blah blah, yada yada…”

“Hmm hmm… I get it! So it’s blah blah, yada yada!”

After a quick strategy session behind the rocks, Rest and Yuri sprang into action — ready to obtain their precious wyvern meat.
