Chapter 223: The Lavender Margrave Family’s Turmoil (Part 1)

“Urla! What is the meaning of this!?”

Having completed the initial stage of the plain’s development, Urla Lavender returned to the Lavender Margrave family estate, only to be greeted by her grandfather’s furious shout.

“Hmm…”

Urla sighed as she glanced at her grandfather, who had come out to the estate’s entrance to meet her.

Under her reproachful gaze, Urla’s grandfather, Loser Lavender VI, flinched slightly.

“What’s with that look… I don’t recall ever permitting you to glare at your grandfather with such defiance!”

“……”

“Stop looking at me like that, I said!”

Growing increasingly frustrated with Urla’s unusually defiant attitude, Loser raised his hand.

He was about to strike her across the face when her attendant, Arlie, intervened.

“Master, please calm yourself.”

“Out of my way! Move!”

“The servants are watching. Please, I implore you to regain your composure.”

“Guh…!”

Finally, Loser became aware of the onlookers around him.

The estate’s entrance was filled with servants and soldiers, all stunned by Loser’s erratic behavior.

“Urgh… Come with me! I have something to discuss!”

Loser stormed down the hallway, leading the way with heavy, angry steps.

“Thank you.”

Urla said.

“It was nothing, my lady.”

After expressing her gratitude to Arlie, Urla followed her grandfather’s lead.

She was taken to the head of the family’s study.

Once inside, Loser collapsed into a chair with a heavy sigh.

“Where is the ring? You stole it, didn’t you?”

Loser, appearing slightly calmer than before, questioned her.

Though his tone had softened, veins still bulged on his forehead, and his face was flushed red as if he were about to collapse from high blood pressure.

“That ring was without a doubt secured in the hidden vault! No one but you could’ve stolen it!”

“……”

“Hurry up and return it! You know full well how important that ring is!”

“I gave it away.”

Urla responded curtly, her tone indifferent and her iridescent eyes brimming with defiance.

“You gave it…? You’re telling me you handed it over to someone else!?”

“Yes.”

“Don’t be ridiculous! That’s absolutely absurd!”

Loser slammed his fist on the desk.

His face turned an even deeper red, and he shouted so loudly it seemed as though steam might shoot out of his head.

“That ring… That ring is the key to commanding the ‘Shadow’ of our family! Giving it to another is as reckless as offering up your very heart!”

Recently, Urla Lavender had entrusted the ring to a certain man.

The ring was a critical artifact tied to the Lavender Margrave family’s “Shadow,” their covert operations unit.

Without the ring, not even the head of the family could issue orders to the Shadow—that was the rule.

“You… You fool, you absolute fool…!”

“It’s fine.”

In response to her grandfather’s increasingly high-pitched voice, Urla replied with an icy tone.

“I entrusted it. To someone I trust.”

“The young lady says there is no issue, as she has entrusted it to a trustworthy individual.”

Arlie interpreted.

“You dare steal it from me and spout such nonsense! You ungrateful child of a harlot!”

Fueled further by Arlie’s calm explanation, Loser’s temper flared even hotter.

Normally, he would never stoop to such insults, even if he thought them, but now he hurled them at his granddaughter without hesitation.

“Ungrateful wretch…! I raised the child of my useless, incompetent son and a mere fortune-telling harlot, and this is how you repay me!? Do you have any idea how much money I spent on your education!?”

“……”

“You are nothing more than a tool of the Lavender Margrave family. Your sole purpose is to think only of destroying the Empire! After all the effort I put into raising you as a convenient puppet, how dare you awaken to such useless self-awareness now!”

“You killed them.”

Urla murmured quietly.

“Wha…?”

“You killed them… Father and Mother… you killed them!”

“…!”

Loser froze, his body stiffening at her words.

The anger that had consumed him just moments ago vanished, and his face grew pale.

“W-what are you…”

“You killed them. It was you… You killed Father and Mother. I know the truth.”

“……!”

Loser’s mouth opened and closed soundlessly, like a fish gasping for air.

His reaction was so blatant, so transparent, that it served as an undeniable confirmation.

The guilt written across his face spoke louder than any words, validating Urla’s accusation beyond question.
