Chapter 218: The Servants Are Smirking

The three arrived at the Rosemary Marquis’ territory townhouse in the royal capital.

Even though it hadn’t been a particularly long time since they were last here, it felt like ages since their last return.

“Ah… it feels so comforting, like coming home.”

Viola sighed.

“Well, it’s practically a second home for us, so it’s a relief to be back.”

Primula agreed.

The two exhaled softly, their tension easing.

Although this was merely a townhouse, and their true homeland was the Rosemary Marquis’ territory, they had spent much of their adult lives in this house. It was like a second home to them.

(It feels the same for me too…)

Rest silently concurred.

For him, home had been the slums of the royal capital, where he lived with his mother.

The mansion of the Ebern Honorary Viscount family, where he was later taken in, had never felt like home.

This house, however, was where his life had changed—it was his second home.

“Welcome back, Lady Viola, Lady Primula, Sir Rest.”

The servants greeted them.

“Welcome home, my ladies, young master.”

Another added.

In the entrance hall, the servants lined up to receive the trio.

Once a butler-in-training himself, Rest now received far more respectful treatment since becoming a noble.

They now addressed him with “Sir” and called him “Young Master.”

“You must be tired from your journey. Would you like your meal or a bath prepared first?”

“I’d prefer a bath first.”

Viola answered.

“Yes, same here.”

Primula added.

Though it wasn’t a particularly long journey, traveling by carriage from the frontier village in the Sabnock Plains to the royal capital had taken several hours. The constant swaying had left them exhausted.

“We’ll join you later, so feel free to go ahead, Rest.”

Viola said.

“Please wait for us, Rest-sama.” Primula added.

“…Ah, alright.”

Rest replied, his voice slightly hesitant.

It went without saying that he’d be bathing with the two of them.

As Viola and Primula disappeared down the hallway, the remaining servants gave Rest knowing, warm smiles.

“Well, then… see you later.”

Rest muttered awkwardly before hurrying out of the entrance hall.

“Ah, Rest-dono. Welcome back.”

A voice called out.

“Dible-san.”

Rest responded.

On his way to the bath, he was greeted by Dible, an older man with a graying beard.

Dible was the trusted aide of Albert, the Marquis. He was also a former court magician and had served as Rest’s mentor in magic.

“I’ve heard the rumors. It seems you’ve been making remarkable achievements on the frontier.”

“It’s all thanks to you, Dible-san. Without your guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today.”

Rest replied sincerely.

It was a heartfelt statement.

Though Rest possessed infinite magic energy and extraordinary talent, without the teachings of a seasoned practitioner like Dible, his potential might have gone unrealized.

He might have been defeated by Sabnock or Rodel, or perhaps he wouldn’t have been admitted to the academy in the first place.

“Would you care for another sparring session sometime?”

Rest offered.

“Haha… surely you jest. There’s no way I could match you now, Rest-dono.”

Dible said with a laugh, raising his hands in mock surrender.

“There isn’t a single spell I can use that you can’t, Rest-dono. Your technique and combat skills have also matched mine. At this point, I wouldn’t stand a chance against you.”

“I don’t think that’s true…”

Rest replied, though he couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions.

Without realizing it, he had surpassed Dible. The thought left him with a bittersweet feeling—both joy and a hint of sadness.

“I’d be delighted to hear about your experiences on the frontier sometime. But for now, please, go ahead to the bath. The ladies will be along shortly.”

“Hm…”

“Don’t worry, I won’t intrude. Take your time and relax.”

Dible added, his tone teasing.

Rest shot him a sour look, noting the faintly amused expression on Dible’s face. Feeling even more awkward, Rest continued on his way to the bath.
