Chapter 188: Reporting to Andrew (Evening)

Although Rest had accepted Urla’s request, he didn’t head directly to the eastern plains. The overall responsibility for this development project lay with the Second Prince, Andrew. Rest made his way to the headquarters of the pioneering team, where Andrew was likely to be.

“It’s nearly evening… but this should still be a good time to visit.”

With the protective barrier in place and the initial development settled, Andrew’s workload had eased considerably. His responsibilities seemed lighter now, making this an appropriate time for Rest to approach him.

“Excuse me, is His Highness Prince Andrew available?”

“Ah, Count Clover. Yes, he’s inside.”

“Lord Betras is here as well. You have standing permission to see His Highness whenever you wish. Go on in.”

“Oh, Eusgos-senpai is here too? Thank you.”

A familiar soldier allowed him entry. After expressing his thanks, Rest stepped inside the building and made his way to Andrew’s office.

“Your Highness Andrew, this is Rest Clover. May I come in?”

“C-Clover… Count Clover…!? Wait just a moment…!”

A panicked voice responded from inside the room. Rest heard a series of shuffling and banging sounds before receiving permission to enter.

“P-please, come in…”

“Excuse me.”

When Rest entered, he found Andrew and his close aide, Eusgos Betras, just as expected. However, both appeared unusually exhausted, breathing heavily.

“Huff… Huff… I-I apologize for keeping you waiting…”

“Hah… Hah…”

Andrew sat at his desk, while Eusgos leaned against the wall. Both seemed out of breath, with a faint sheen of sweat on their faces.

“Did I interrupt something?”

The atmosphere suggested they had been hiding something—perhaps a confidential discussion.

“N-no, not at all! We were just discussing some important matters… My apologies.”

“No, I’m sorry for barging in unannounced. If now’s not a good time, I can come back tomorrow.”

“No, it’s fine. More importantly, what brings you here?”

“Actually…”

Rest proceeded to explain what he had learned from Urla. By the time he finished, Andrew seemed calmer and more composed.

“I see… I’d heard about a large monster in the eastern wetlands, but I didn’t realize it was a Wyrm.”

“What should we do?”

“The Lavender Margrave family would eventually deal with it, but not without some losses. It’s better to address this early. Count Clover, would you assist them if you’re willing?”

“Of course. It wouldn’t hurt to create goodwill with the great noble houses of the east.”

“That would be ideal. Still… I find it intriguing that Lady Urla approached you directly. She’s as enigmatic as ever.”

“I feel the same way, Your Highness.”

It’s unclear why Urla bypassed Andrew and made her request directly to Rest.

The Clover family had no particular ties to the Lavender Margrave family, so there must be some reason behind it.

“By the way, I heard she’s the next head of the Lavender family. Isn’t she rather young for that role?”

“Yes… Her grandfather is the current head of the family, but the original successor—his son—has been missing for over ten years. It’s highly likely he’s deceased. She also lost her mother, which might explain the somber aura she carries.”

“I see…”

So she’s an orphan.

While it was unclear how her upbringing and personality were connected, Rest couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of kinship.

(For such a small child to represent the Lavender family and participate in the dangerous development of the frontier… it wouldn’t hurt to look out for her a little. Surely, no harm will come from lending her a hand.)

With that thought, Rest firmly resolved to support Urla in her efforts.
