Chapter 148: The Catreya Marquis Family Rebellion ②

Standing atop the gate was Toya Catreya, the third son of the Catreya Marquis family and Yuri’s biological brother. Like their father, who had a face as stern as a rock, Toya had a large, muscular build. He was a spear master and, despite his youth, commanded a squadron in the knights’ order.

“You don’t have permission to roam without a leash. Get back to your room! What if some lowlife saw that pretty little face and those angelic, soft arms of yours?”

Though Toya’s tone was rough, it was clear he had deep affection for his sister. However, referring to her as “too pretty” gave off an oddly unsettling vibe.

“Toya nii-san, I need to go to the academy. Let me pass.”

“There’s no way… No way I can let you pass!”

From atop the gate, Toya pointed the tip of his spear sharply at her.

“I can’t let a beautiful girl like you walk outside! Suitors would swarm like maggots on a corpse!”

“…Toya, this isn’t about that.”

The steward interjected with a pained expression.

“Indeed, Yuri-sama’s cuteness and beauty are incomparable, but this isn’t the time for such talk. The master ordered that Yuri-sama must not leave the mansion.”

“Ah… that’s right. Yuri, Father hasn’t given you permission to go out. Go back to your room!”

“I am attending the academy with proper procedures! There’s no reason to keep me confined without cause!”

Yuri fumed, shaking her fists.

“If you get in my way… even you, Toya-niisama, won’t be spared! I’ll fight my way back to the capital if I have to!”

“So, my little sister is in her rebellious phase. It’s like being playfully bitten by a puppy.”

Toya shrugged and leapt down from the gate.

“Very well… I’ll have to discipline you a bit. To make sure you never leave the mansion again… and never step into dangerous places like battlefields again!”

“Ugh…”

“Oooooooooooooooooo!”

As Toya shouted, a thick stone armor began to cover his entire body. This was his specialty magic, [Stonewear]. By layering this with another spell, [Hardening], Toya achieved impenetrable defense. In his fully armed state, he could withstand even high-level magic head-on.

“I’ve already won, Yuri.”

“Toya, you think you’ve already won against me?”

“Of course.”

A muffled voice echoed from within the stone armor.

“I’m your brother, Yuri. There’s no way an older brother can be weaker than his sister. And… you’re already tired from fighting the other soldiers. There’s no way you can beat me in your current state.”

It was an irrefutable fact. Toya was undoubtedly one of the elite among the knights. Only a handful could match him in combat. In contrast, Yuri was just a student. While her condition, Ogre Syndrome, granted her superior physical abilities, it only made her stronger than average humans.

“Discipline sometimes requires corporal punishment… but I don’t want to do that to you. Please, return to your room quietly.”

“…No.”

“What?”

“I said no, Toya niisama. I will never be a caged bird again!”

Yuri had already tasted freedom. She had learned about the world beyond the mansion. How could a bird that had known the joy of flying in the open sky return to a life confined in a cage?

“No matter what, I’ll go! To the capital where my friends are waiting!”

“…Very well. I’ll restrain you by force!”

Toya, clad in stone armor and wielding a spear, charged at Yuri. His speed belied the weight of the stone. It wasn’t just his physical prowess; he had likely used some magic to lighten the armor. Toya was not just skilled in martial arts but also a high-level mage.

“You’re right… I am tired, Toya.”

Yuri murmured as her brother charged.

“I’m tired from fighting the soldiers trying to stop me… oh, I’m very tired.”

She spoke melancholically and then kicked off the ground.

“I’m tired of holding back so I don’t kill anyone.”

“Gah?!”

Yuri kicked Toya’s stomach with her bare foot. There was a loud crash like thunder. The stone armor shattered into pieces. Though it had been hardened by magic to a strength close to steel, it was destroyed in one blow by Yuri’s kick.

“T-Toya…”

“Ah, as expected of you, Toya. Even though I kicked you with all my strength, you’re still alive.”

Yuri said with relief. She seemed genuinely happy that she didn’t have to kill her brother. The stone armor crumbled away, and Toya fell to the ground among the remnants. He had a large bruise on his abdomen, but his life was not in danger.

“I am free now. I’m separating from my father and my brother, so please, everyone, be happy for your sister’s independence.”

“W-wait… Yuri…”

“And one more thing.”

Yuri said, looking down at her fallen brother with a bright smile.

“The next time I come back here of my own free will, I’ll bring a wonderful boyfriend. I already have a candidate in mind. Look forward to it.”

“…………!”

Toya’s mouth opened and closed wordlessly. Having said what she wanted, Yuri turned her back on her fallen brother.

“Take care!”

Yuri leaped over the gate and escaped from the Catreya Marquis household. The steward and soldiers were still there, but they couldn’t chase after her. They stood in stunned silence, watching her retreating figure.
