Chapter 37: Lido

–Lido’s back

After escaping, we immediately discussed our next steps.

Our destination is the only city of the demon race, “Zoff.”

We are heading to Zoff to stop the war between the human and demon races.

Although humans are involved in this incident, it was instigated by the elven race.

However, if things continue as they are now, the demon spies in Melkid, the royal capital, will contact the Demon King saying, “The princess managed to escape safely, but the humans killed our comrades”

If that happens, there is a danger that the demons will start a war against the humans.

It was decided that the best way to stop it would be to have the princess persuade the Demon King personally.

Even the princess, who was about to be executed, was in favor of stopping the war.

However, she exploded in anger, saying that she would not forgive Arthur, who killed her companions who came to rescue her. We decided to bypass the dwarven territory to reach Zoff.

Due to Lido’s poor condition and inability to fly high, it was determined that it would be impossible to go directly from the human territory to Zoff.

As we get closer to the demon territory from the Kingdom of Melkid, the kingdom’s military defense becomes stricter.

There is a high possibility of being shot down by ground-to-air attacks using magic or magical devices.

Lido is too large to be fully protected by the “Heart Wall” barrier.

After the discussion, the princess remained by Lido’s side.

“Gale, what is she doing?”

“Karla-sama? She is talking to Lido. We demons can easily communicate with monsters. Lido is a special monster with high intelligence, so they can have quite a conversation.”

The princess and Lido have a relationship like friends.

It was strange that she readily adopted my plan, even though I was a stranger, when we escaped from the capital.

She must have wanted to save Lido.

Gale answered some other questions I had.

When Lido attacked the central square, it seems they used perception-inhibiting and shock-absorbing magical devices. However, they were broken and unusable after the battle with Arthur.

All the magic stones that served as the energy source for the magical devices were used from within Lido’s body.

……Monsters and magic tools are a dangerous combination.

While we were having such a conversation, the princess hurriedly came towards us.

“Gale, Lido won’t listen to me! If this continues, he will die!”

Gale remained silent, deep in thought.

I asked the princess.

“What’s wrong?”

“Lido is reaching his limit. I’ve been telling him to land on the ground and rest, but he won’t listen. Ugh…”

The princess lowered her head, and her shoulders trembled slightly.

Gale then explained to me, loud enough for the princess to hear.

“I guess Lido knows that once he’s on the ground, he can’t fly anymore. That’s why he’s trying to gain as much distance as possible.”

“Didn’t the potions heal his injuries? If he rests and eats properly, can’t his stamina and blood recover?”

“Takumi. Potions can close wounds, but they don’t restore injured parts to their original state. Lido was seriously injured. His bones and organs are probably still misaligned, causing intense pain even now as we fly.”

Mia and I were at a loss for words.

We thought the potion would heal the injury.

We didn’t know that Lido had been desperately flying, enduring pain, just to give us a chance to escape.

I crouched down, touched Lido’s back, and used the ‘Analysis’ skill.

W-What is this?

The ‘Analysis’ skill should convert it into the words I know.

Is it because it can’t be expressed with my knowledge?

No way…

“Gale, monsters are living things, right?”

“Monsters are not living things. They are weapons made from ‘sin’ and ‘miasma’.”

“Weapons! Isn’t the difference from animals whether or not they have magic stones in their bodies?”

“That’s completely different. Demons move using the energy of magic stones. I won’t go into details because we don’t have time, but their appearance, growth, and strength are all determined by the accumulated amount of ‘sin’ stored in the magic stones.”

Damn it, I don’t understand at all…

The fact that the status is garbled means that my knowledge cannot be verbalized.

I can’t comprehend that they’re not living beings.

“If we replenish the magic stones, will Lido recover?”

“Injuries won’t heal, but the energy will be restored.”

“Alright, we have a large number of magic stones. You need to persuade Lido and make him land no matter what.”

During our escape to the capital, Melkid, we accumulated magic stones.

Then as if realizing something, Mia shouted,

“Gale-san! I see a lake over there. Landing on water will reduce the burden.”

After that, the princess and Gale somehow persuaded Lido and made him land on the lake.

— On the Lake Shore

“These are the magic stones we have. Feel free to use them all for Lido.”

Mia took out 20 bags filled with magic stones from the stuffed animal’s pocket.

There are a lot of F-rank magic stones in them, so I’m a little worried if this will be enough.

“Takumi, Mia. Thank you very much.”

The princess said so and fed the bag of magic stones to Lido.

I can’t judge the dragon’s condition by appearance, but seeing the relieved expressions on the princess and Gale’s faces, it seems like we’ve crossed the hurdle.

“Lido, from here on, we’ll part ways, because being with us puts too much strain on you. Take your time and return to ‘Zoff’ at your own pace.”

Certainly, that would be for the best. However, I had one concern.

“When facing monsters or adventurers, he won’t easily lose. The problem is Arthur. He might even pursue us to the Shirakami Dungeon.”

“Isn’t the  ‘Sword Saint’ heading towards the demon territory?”

“Arthur knows that I want to go to ‘Gonhirrim.’ There’s a possibility he might come this way.”

Silence filled the air.

Unable to find the right words, we thought about the horrific scene it would be if Lido was discovered by Arthur.

At that moment, Mia suddenly raised her hand.

“I’ve come up with an idea! Do we still have any perception-blocking magical tools?”
