Chapter 17: Understanding the Current Situation
After patting Lilina’s head for a while, we resumed our journey in search of the elixir.
“By the way, do you know where the elixir is?”
“Yes, though it’s not certain. We’re heading to a place where it’s likely to be found.”
“Even just having a guess is helpful. Honestly, I don’t know much about the forest.”
Even though I have knowledge from the original work, many parts are cut out in the anime. While I could rely on Lloyd’s knowledge, I remember him usually letting the protagonist, Kane, handle navigation.
“So, what kind of elixir are we looking for?”
I remember Kane and his friends going to find an elixir in the anime, but I can’t recall what it looked like.
When I asked, Lilina nodded and raised her index finger.
“It’s a mysterious herb called ‘Potion Herb’ that can transform into any potion. It’s said to grow under trees that absorb a lot of magic power, in clean upstream waters.”
“I see. If it can transform into any potion, it can cure any illness.”
Now that she mentioned it, I think I recall hearing about a herb with a similar name.
“Upstream means we have to go deeper into the forest, where there are more monsters.”
“Yes. Last time, I got to the midstream area before being suddenly attacked by a monster from an unseen location and falling off a cliff.”
Lilina scratched her head apologetically.
…Attacked from an unseen location, huh?
“Don’t beastkin have a high sense of danger?”
“Yes. We have a good sense of smell and hearing.”
Lilina twitched her nose and wiggled her ears.
In the anime, Lilina was usually the first to sense enemies approaching Cain and his group.
I folded my arms and thought.
“To catch Lilina off guard like that, we might face a tougher challenge than I thought.”
“Yes. If I had more power, I might have noticed it.”
In the anime, Kane skill ‘Support’ was active, which likely enhanced her sense of danger even more. This means the current Lilina isn’t as adept at sensing danger as the one I know from the anime.
The ‘Support’ skill would indeed be useful. Beastkin are superior to humans in strength, agility, and danger sense. Strengthening Lilina with ‘Support’ would enhance her abilities, but we don’t have that option now.
…We should proceed through the forest more cautiously.
“Ah, Lloyd-sama, there’s a monster nearby.”
Lilina’s ears twitched, and she put her hand out in front of me. Looking where she pointed, I saw a small boar-like monster emerge from the bushes.
Boars are known to be strong, and as we go deeper into the forest, we’ll encounter even more terrifying monsters. Before that happens, I need to understand Lilina’s current strength.
“Lilina, can you handle that?”
“Yes, leave it to me! I’ve dealt with ones that size before.”
Lilina drew a short sword from her waist and took a stance. Her posture was so natural that it didn’t seem forced.
Given her confidence, it should be fine to leave this to Lilina.
I gave a small nod and placed a hand on Lilina’s shoulder.
“I want to observe your fighting style for the future. I won’t intervene unless it gets dangerous, so try to handle it on your own.”
“Got it! I’ll show you how cool I can be, Lloyd-sama!”
With that, Lilina kicked off the ground with vigor.
Let’s see how well Lilina can fight without the ‘Support’ skill.
Thinking this, I watched closely as Lilina faced off against the monster.
