Chapter 214: The Problem
“Yo! I brought it!”
“You’re early…”
Gladden said as he walked briskly into the practice field. Today is two days after the welcoming party. The only thing we’ve done in the past two days was mock battles. Or rather, that’s all there is to do. We can’t go hunting monsters by ourselves because it would be a big problem if something goes wrong. Also, we can’t go to places where there are many people. Incidentally, they say it’s always like this while studying abroad. So I’m thinking about doing something other than mock battles.
“Now, pick your favorite sword from this list!”
Gladen pulled dozens of swords out of his magic ring. Then I went through the process of choosing my favorite again.
“This one on the right, this one on the left.”
“Alight!”
There was a sword that felt right in my hand the moment I held it in each of my right and left hands. I could swing them lightly and move them as freely as my hands and feet.
“Good! Now I can finally make the sword…..”
“Hm? What’s wrong?”
Gladden suddenly stopped talking. He looked gloomy at the same time.
“No matter how we modify the blast furnace, we can’t generate enough firepower to melt the swords.”
“Ahh.”
Certainly the firepower required to melt this green sword would be too much for a half-hearted attempt.
“This would require a total of nearly 20,000 magic output, even if we estimate it lightly. That would require dozens of wizards directly under the control of the government.”
“Is it correct to say that swords can be made as long as there are people who can use nearly unlimited magic power?”
“As long as I can melt it, I can forge the sword.”
I was relieved to hear that. I was in a hurry to find out if it was possible to make a new sword from the green sword.
“Sophie! Sorry, please come here!”
“Yes? What is it?”
I called Sophie and she came right away. Wasn’t there a mock battle going on? And when I looked at the place where Sophie was, I saw Urza, who was iced over with only his face showing. I felt sorry for him.
“Can you use 20,000 magic power in five hours?”
“Yes, I can.”
I said five hours just to be sure. Even if that was the case, Sophie gave me an immediate answer. Well, I can use almost unlimited magic power with the help of Zeal, so this should be fine. In the meantime, my supply of magic power is still unstable, so I need Sophie’s help.
“The magic power is fine.”
“I see! No problem! Then I’m counting on you for the next one week!”
“One week?”
“What? This isn’t the same as the one I brought you today. It’s going to take me a week to make two masterpieces.”
I thought that after five hours of pouring magic power, that would be the end of it. I explained the situation to Sophie, who still didn’t have a clear idea of what was going on. I had to make Sophie stay with me for a week just for the sake of my sword.
“I would have no problem with a week for you, onii-chan.”
“Thank you.”
When Gladen explained the circumstances to Sophie and asked nicely. Sophie answered with a smile.
“If I can be of any help to you, please feel free to use me anytime you want. But only when you are working with onii-chan, okay? If you call me and my brother out separately, I’ll refuse unless there is a lot to do.”
“Ah…I understand.”
Even though I found out she was my sister from the previous life, Sophie was still Sophie. I feel more comfortable with her like she is now.
“Ah! Yes! Gladen! I have a favor to ask you!”
“What’s it?”
I pulled something out of my pocket that I had almost forgotten because I had gotten so used to the routine.
“I need you to put one of these on each of my swords.”
“What’s this?”
I pulled two rust-colored balls out of my pocket and showed them to Gladen.
“Wait a minute.”
I explained to Gladen about the balls and, thinking it would be the quickest way to get them to stick to the sword, I used ice magic to force them to stick to the sword and threw it. The sword went about five meters away, then shifted and came back to me.
“So you want to attach that to the sword so that it will automatically return?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
After a demonstration and a little explanation, Gladen seemed to understand what I wanted.
“I see… then I’ll make a recess in the center of the sword’s guard where you can attach it.”
“Thanks, by the way, I want this ball to be at least half buried in the sword.”
If not, the transition will not work.
“I understand. Then may I take some measurements now?”
“Yeah, sure.”
I handed the ball to Gladen. He took notes and began taking measurements.
“I’m done.”
“Thanks.”
Gladen was about to hand me the balls when I asked him if he wanted to keep them. I thought to myself, “I’m going to leave them with Gladen today”. Then the ball came back to my pocket without my permission.
“The balls have disappeared!”
“Oh, it’s all right. They’re right here.”
I showed Gladen the ball that was back in my pocket.
Gladen and the others left immediately, saying they had to get ready for tomorrow. Before they left, Gladen gave me a map of where they were going to be tomorrow.
And tomorrow begins a week of scorching heat.
