Chapter 364: Reinforced Glass

The next day, I went with Fabienne to the knights’ order to hear about the results of the cold cookies. From what I could see, everyone looked healthy.

“Good morning. We’re here to hear about the effects of the potion.”

“Julius-sama, Fabienne-sama, that’s a good potion!”

Immediately, the knights gathered around. Among them were the knights who had been used as test subjects yesterday. I secretly appraised them, but there didn’t seem to be any abnormalities. Fabienne must have appraised them too, as she looked relieved.

Did I cause unnecessary worry for Fabienne? Maybe next time, I should conduct the experiments without her around.

The knights had thoroughly prepared a report. Our knights’ order is the best.

“I see, the effect lasts for about half a day. If we eat it when the heat starts picking up, it should be enough to handle the day.”

“That seems to be the case. If it’s one per day, it should work out.”

Considering the materials we can gather from the herb garden and the amount of blue slime mucus available, that seems about right. The herbs are still manageable, but blue slime mucus is going to be a tough one. I wonder if anyone could come up with a method to farm slimes?

“Julius-sama, Fabienne-sama, good morning.”

“Good morning, Lionel.”

“Good morning.”

“I’d like to adopt the cold cookies for the knights’ order.”

“That was quick.”

I couldn’t help but laugh along with Fabienne. It must have had quite an effect. If it improves the knights’ working conditions, it’s very welcome. I immediately agreed.

I had confirmed that there were no issues with the cold cookies. Based on this report, I will send a letter to my sisters-in-law.

“With this, I can send sunscreen and cold cookies to my sisters-in-law in the capital.”

“Yes. It’s going to get hotter from here, so we should send them as soon as possible.”

Once we returned to the mansion, I immediately wrote the letter. Of course, Fabienne was writing one too. While we were at it, I decided to involve Rosalia as well. Writing letters to my sisters-in-law should help improve our impression.

Once everything was ready, I arranged for the package to be sent to the capital. There’s nothing for Cain-niisan, but I think it’ll be fine. If he’s the only one staying cool in the heat, he might get some ridicule from his male friends.

“I’m sure my sisters-in-law will be very happy!”

“Kyuu!”

“Well, Brother, I’d like to try the cold cookie too.”

“Kyuu!”

“Alright. But just one. This is a magic potion for the knights’ order, after all.”

Basically, we don’t need it since we spend most of our time indoors, but it should be fine to let them experience it once. I gave a cold cookie to Rosalia and Mira. Since it’s essentially just a sweet cookie, both of them looked quite pleased.

“It’s sweet and delicious. You and my sisters-in-law are really talented at making sweets.”

“Kyuu.”

“Ah, thank you. But, you know… it’s a magic potion…”

I feel like they completely misunderstood. Sure, I’ve been making dried fruits and such, so maybe I’m closer to a confectioner than I thought. If I started making things like pudding, cream puffs, and chocolate, it might turn into something incredible. I’ll stay quiet about it.

“I feel like it’s getting cooler.”

“Haha, you don’t have to force it. This magic potion won’t show its effect until it gets hot. Maybe after lunch, you could go outside and try it.”

“Kyuu, Kyuu!”

Mira, who loves walks, raised her hand with a “whoosh!” Looks like I’ll be accompanying her for a walk this afternoon. I’ll eat a cold cookie too, of course, and I offered one to Fabienne as well.

“What should we do from here?”

“Fabienne, do you think you could make some more cold cookies? In the meantime, I’ll work on making reinforced glass.”

“Reinforced glass?”

Both Fabienne and Rosalia tilted their heads in unison. Their poses were exactly the same. They really look like close sisters; it made my cheeks soften.

When I told them about the conversation that took place at the merchant guild yesterday, Fabienne was surprised, while Rosalia was pleased.

“I’ll also help make the air conditioning system for the greenhouse. Leave it to me!”

“Since it’ll be a fairly large system, let’s work hard together.”

Good, just as I thought, I managed to get Rosalia involved too. With this, we should be able to install both the air conditioning and the sprinklers at the same time. Both will likely be large systems. We’ll have to work hard.

Also, I want to set up something like an artificial sun for cloudy days. I’m not sure if it’ll work, but well, I’ll try my best.

“Julius-sama, how are you going to make the reinforced glass?”

“First, I’ll heat regular glass until it’s almost melted, then I’ll use wind magic to cool it down rapidly. By doing that, I’ll create compression on the surface of the glass and simultaneously envelop it with magical power.”

“I see…”

Even though I said that, they seemed to have trouble understanding. I guess that’s understandable. It’s hard to grasp what compression is all about. Rosalia was twitching her eyebrows. She nodded as though she understood, but she definitely didn’t.

“To put it simply, we’ll use wind imbued with magic to strengthen the glass.”

“Now, I think I kind of understand.”

Magic really is convenient for explaining things. If anything goes wrong, I can always blame it on magic. I’m really glad magic exists in this world.
