Chapter 285: Liquid Glue

When I returned to the mansion, I immediately started today’s work. Before that, I asked Nero to send a letter.

“It’s a letter to Lady Fabienne, correct? Understood. I’ll get it done right away.”

Nero, dressed in a child’s butler uniform, moved with efficiency. He’s already completely my butler, even though he’s only been here for a short while.

First, I’ll start with creating magical tools. I’ll make an additional magic stone burner and explain how to make it to Rosalia while drawing the blueprints.

“It’s like this, but do you think you can make it?”

“Leave it to me!”

With that very positive response, she immediately began work with Lelie in tow. Lelie looked on with great interest. As I thought yesterday, Lelie seems quite interested. Maybe she wants to try making it herself? I’ll ask Nero about it when he returns.

While Rosalia is making the magic stone burner, I decided to go to the alchemy room. Of course, it’s to make glue. Nero had just returned, so we went together.

“Nero, it seems like Lelie is interested in making magical tools. Have you heard anything about it?”

Upon hearing this, Nero frowned with a look of embarrassment. It seems he knows something.

“Well, she did say something like ‘I want to try it too’ at one point. At that time, I told her to focus on her assigned tasks properly…”

He seemed somewhat apologetic. For the two orphans, being able to work at the Baron Heine’s household is already an incredible opportunity. Maybe he’s worried that her attention might be diverted, causing her original duties to suffer.

“I see. Indeed, Lelie is currently training to become a servant to Rosalia. It might be better for her to stay focused on that until she completes her training.”

“I agree. I don’t think there’s any need to rush, and it’s better for her to focus on Rosalia’s work for now.”

As an older brother, it seems I worry about my cute little sister just like he does. Having taken Nero and Lelie in somewhat forcefully, I naturally want them to be happy.

“Alright, then I’ll do what I can do. First, making glue.”

“Glue, you say?”

“Yes, glue. It takes time and effort to seal wax every time, doesn’t it?”

“That may be true.”

Even so, it seems he doesn’t quite get it. It can’t be helped. Unlike me, Nero didn’t come from a convenient world.

I immediately started making the glue. Since this is a household item rather than a magical potion, anyone should be able to make it as long as they know the method.

First, I’ll make a small amount to test it. If it works well, I’ll increase the quantity.

I boil distilled water in a saucepan and add glutinous rice, kneading it well. Then I add pine resin to adjust the stickiness and adhesive strength. A nice amber-colored adhesive liquid was completed.

I put it into a jar and fix a handkerchief on the lid. Then I cover it with a glass lid to finish.

“Here we have the liquid glue. Let’s test it out right away. Could you get some paper for me?”

“Understood.”

I used the liquid glue to attach two sheets of paper that I received from Nero. I spread a thin layer of the liquid and then stuck the papers together. A few minutes later, the papers were securely bonded with no issues. This should be sufficient for sealing envelopes.

“Alright, it worked well.”

“I didn’t think paper could stick together so easily. Now I understand what Julius-sama meant earlier about how ‘sealing wax is a hassle’.”

He seems impressed, but I get the feeling he thinks I’m a huge stickler for convenience. That wasn’t my intention. I just want to make life easier. Compared to modern times, this world is still quite inconvenient. Once you’ve experienced convenience, it’s hard to go back.

I placed the finished liquid glue in the most formal salon of the Heine barony, where everyone often gathers. The jar I used is stylish, so it shouldn’t spoil the salon’s atmosphere.

I put a note explaining how to use it under the jar, and also placed the paper I attached earlier as a sample. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s reactions. I returned to the workshop in high spirits.

There, Rosalia was struggling to make the magic stone burner. My eyes met Mira’s, who had been neglected.

“Kyuu!”

“Oh, there, there. You must be bored, huh?”

As I petted Mira, I thought about what to do next. It looks like it will take some time to finish the magic stone burner. So, what should I do? How about making a fountain pen?

It would be good to make the glass pen requested by the knights, but it might be better to wait until the colored glass I ordered arrives so I can try various designs.

“Alright, let’s make it.”

“Kyuu?”

“Mira, let’s make it together!”

“Kyuu!”

She seemed very happy. In my case, whether Mira is here or not doesn’t affect my ability to make things. I can balance both work and play. This is what they call mental ease. Wahaha.

While petting Mira, I prepared the pine wood. I also needed metal for the pen nib. A special metal for the pen point that greatly affects writing comfort is also necessary.

I moved around the workshop with Mira, gathering the materials needed.
