Chapter 99 — The End of the Rainy Season

Not long after Rozzo and Sid moved in, the rainy season arrived in the area.

The weather was bad from morning till night for several days. The fields enhanced by my skills were fine, but the ones I had manually tilled suffered — the soil became soft and loose, and the weeds grew wildly, making things pretty tough.

Working in the rain was surprisingly hard too, and this might have been my least favorite season, second only to winter.

Back when I lived in Japan, I didn’t mind the rainy season all that much, but it seems it’s just hopelessly incompatible with farming.

And thanks to experiencing this world’s rainy season, I realized something important:
The seasons here are exactly the same as Japan’s.

I had suspected as much when winter came, but the arrival of spring followed by the rainy season confirmed it.

Now that the rainy season has passed, the temperature’s been rising day by day, so I can safely assume summer is on the way.

It makes me happy to feel the four seasons here — something that’s slowly disappearing in Japan — though all I can do now is hope the summer heat won’t be as extreme.

In Japan, it had become normal for temperatures to hit the high 30s, and even breaking 40°C wasn’t all that rare anymore.

If the temperature goes over 40°C here too, farming will become nearly impossible. Ideally, I hope it stays under 30°C.

While thinking about all that, I fully immersed myself in working the fields under the comfortably warm post-rainy-season skies.

After finishing the day’s work, I was walking back to the villa with Sheila when I noticed Rozzo and Sid running toward us from a distance, looking like they were racing each other.

They had been lively back in the royal capital, but since moving here, they looked even more full of life.

I guess, after all, it’s just fun for them to be together as brothers.

“Hah—hah—! Alright, I win!”

“Whew—whew—. I wasn’t racing you. Besides, you started early, so technically you lost.”

“I did not start early! Stop making such petty accusations!”

“Um… can I ask what you ran over here for?”

I cut off their elementary-school-level argument, which the two middle-aged men were having, and asked them for their reason.

I personally found the scene rather heartwarming, but the expression on Sheila’s face beside me was ice cold.

“Ah, sorry about that! Actually, we finally finished building the wagon!”

“Really? What kind of wagon is it, by the way?”

“Well, it’s a wagon designed for hauling a large load. The seats are nice and soft, and we’ve done a lot to reduce the shaking too.”

“A large load, huh…? So, would we be able to ride it too?”

“Of course! You’re welcome to ride it anytime! Although… I do have one small favor to ask, if you don’t mind.”

At that, Rozzo and Sid both put on unusually serious expressions.

Maybe they wanted payment for making the wagon? I had been thinking of giving them a new movie or maybe an adult video as a gift anyway, so the timing felt just right.

“As we’ve probably mentioned before, we don’t have any creatures to pull the wagon. It’s called a ‘wagon,’ but it’s way too big and heavy for horses to handle.”

“I see. So you’d like me to provide a tamed beast to pull it, right? …Alright, leave it to me. I’ll handle finding a creature to pull the wagon.”

“Thanks, you’re a lifesaver! We’re counting on you!”

“We’ll make sure the wagon’s always ready to go.”

“Understood. As soon as I’ve found a suitable monster, I’ll let you know.”

Having wrapped up their business, the two of them exchanged a sharp glare, then raced each other back to their workshop and living quarters.

They’re noisy, but having more people around definitely makes things lively and fun.

And now that they’ve even built a wagon, once I secure a creature to pull it, it’ll be easy to make trips to the royal capital anytime.

Depending on the situation, we might even be able to visit other towns. Having proper transportation now is a huge step forward.

“Rozzo seems to be having even more fun than he did back in the capital, which is great… but those two together are just too noisy.”

Sheila sighed.

“You kicked them out of the villa pretty quickly too, didn’t you?”

“It wasn’t just the noise. I couldn’t stand how rough and careless they were. I do feel bad, though — I think it delayed the wagon’s completion a bit.”

“Not at all. I didn’t ask them to build it in the first place, and honestly, I thought they were pretty noisy too. I think having them build their own house first was the right call.”

“Anyway… what will you do about the monster to pull the wagon?”

“Would it be alright if we decide together again? I was thinking Snowdeer might be a good choice, but I’d like to hear if you have any other suggestions.”

“Of course. In that case, let’s hold a strategy meeting later today.”

“Sounds good. I’ll make some pancakes for the meeting.”

“Pancakes? Hehe, now I’m really looking forward to it!”

After that, Sheila and I returned to the villa, had dinner, rested for a bit, and then held a meeting to decide which creature would pull the wagon.

Thanks to Sheila’s knowledge of monsters, we were able to come up with a solid plan this time too.
