Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 64: A Major Upset

I took a few minutes to calm myself down, pretending to go to the restroom.

Once my heart finally settled, I returned to the others.

I had been so preoccupied with worrying about whether Sheila would leave that I completely missed the mock battle between Donny and Lime. Sheila had already reassured me that she would stay, so I should have focused on cheering for Lime instead.

As I walked back, regretting my actions slightly, I was met with a bizarre sight.

Donny was kneeling on the ground, clutching his head in despair, while Lime bounced up and down excitedly.

In the distance, Lime’s friends were celebrating, practically dancing with joy.

It looked as if Lime had won.

Shocked by this impossible scene, I quickly turned to Sheila for answers.

“Sheila… You’re telling me that… Donny lost to Lime?”

“Yes. Against all odds, Lime won.”

“And it was a complete victory! He was acting all high and mighty, and yet he lost. He calls himself a bodyguard, but he can’t even win against anyone except me? What a joke.”

“…Gah!”

Velvet mercilessly kicked Donny while he was down, hurling insults at him as he hung his head in defeat.

Donny clutched his chest dramatically, letting out a pitiful groan.

I felt a little sorry for him, but at the same time, she wasn’t wrong. As a supposed bodyguard, this loss was… questionable. I couldn’t find the words to defend him.

“So Lime really won…? To be honest, I can’t even begin to imagine how. How did Lime pull it off?”

“It was a sneak attack, like last time. It seems Lime has learned to turn translucent even in broad daylight. As soon as the match started, it disappeared and landed the first hit by surprise.”

“Then it compressed its body to the smallest possible size, turning itself into a round shape before launching at full speed. Using a spring-like motion, it accelerated. Since it was still translucent, tracking its movements was nearly impossible. Donny did his best, but Lime still landed a second hit on his legs.”

So against Donny, who is large and strong, Lime opted for speed and precision.

If Lime was targeting his lower legs while bouncing around unpredictably—like something out of Slime MoriMori or Monster Strike—then, yeah… That would be tough for someone as big as Donny to handle.

And if Lime was practically invisible during all this? That’s just unfair.

“And the final blow… Lime, as if mocking Donny for trying so hard to see it, made its body glow brightly to blind him. Even I was momentarily blinded, so I didn’t see what happened next, but I heard that Lime rushed in and slammed into Donny’s stomach. That was the finishing move.”

“All of them were sneak attacks, but it was still a flawless victory? Lime is even stronger than I thought…”

“That thing is way too strong for a slime! And it still has room to evolve… It might turn into a complete monster at this rate.”

Lime beamed at the praise, bouncing even more enthusiastically.

Since I had assumed it would lose and didn’t bother watching, I owed it an apology. On top of that, I should reward it for its win against Donny.

“Damn it… This is so frustrating! What’s with the people in this place?! Every single one of you is ridiculously strong! You should be out on the battlefield, not farming!”

“See? Now do you get it? I don’t need you to guard me. You can just go home now.”

“Ugh… Wait, hold on… Does this mean Sato is strong too? If so, then maybe I really am unnecessary…”

“I-I’m super weak! If I fought you, I wouldn’t last ten seconds!”

“In that case, I can’t approve of this! Sheila and Lime would prioritize protecting Sato if something happened! That means I have to protect the young lady!”

“Oh, come on. There aren’t any monster-like enemies around here.”

“You never know what could happen! That’s why I’ll continue to stay by your side as your guard.”

His reasoning was completely absurd, but I could tell that Donny genuinely cared about Velvet’s safety.

Even though Sheila and Lime had utterly defeated him, Lime was practically his natural predator.

Maybe I should get him some contact lenses and give him a chance to redeem himself.

Besides, things are always more fun with more people around.

Velvet was still looking at him coldly, but I felt like welcoming Donny into our group with open arms.
