Chapter 55: Lime’s Friends

One morning, after resuming farming and gradually getting used to the agricultural work again, I stepped outside after breakfast while rubbing my body.

Outside, I saw Lime… along with three unfamiliar slimes bouncing around.

For a moment, I thought Lime was under attack, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Rather, it looked like they were imitating Lime’s movements. Maybe they were Lime’s friends.

I had heard that monsters that weren’t tamed would attack humans on sight. In fact, every monster we had encountered in the back mountain or dungeons had attacked us the moment they spotted us.

Because of that, I would prefer that Lime didn’t bring wild monsters here. But at the same time, I felt bad for Lime—he must have wanted friends. It would be cruel to reject that outright.

If they attacked me or Sheila, I would send them away immediately and tell Lime to meet them outside our property from now on.

With that decision in mind, I slowly approached Lime and the three slimes near him.

“Lime, are these slimes your friends?”

As soon as I spoke, the slimes stopped bouncing and took a combat stance.

Sheila, without hesitation, clenched her fists, looking completely ready for battle.

“Sheila, don’t attack. They haven’t attacked us yet.”

“Understood. But if they do attack, I will make sure to strike back without killing them.”

“…Yes. Please do.”

Lime seemed to be calming the tense slimes, as if communicating with them.

Of course, it wasn’t in any language we could understand, so we had no idea what was being said.

“Ah, they’re lowering their guard. Did Lime say something to them?”

“…I’m not sure either. I’ve never seen a wild monster that doesn’t attack humans on sight.”

“Even you, Sheila? It almost looks like Lime is leading them, like their superior.”

Lime had evolved into a Dark Slime, and since then, he had consumed a considerable amount of magic cores.

Not only had he demonstrated his strength in sparring matches, but he had also played a major role in the dungeon.

Perhaps, at some point, he had gained the respect of wild slimes.

“I’m glad they calmed down. So… Lime, what do you want to do with these slimes?”

Lime shook his body excitedly, as if telling us to follow him.

He led us to the river beyond the fields.

It was a small stream flowing from the back mountain. Watching Lime’s gestures, it seemed that the three slimes had been living here.

Near the stream, there were small holes, likely used as shelters for them at night.

“So Lime happened to find them living here and got to know them? I still don’t quite get it, but… are you saying you want to live with these three slimes?”

Lime responded by bouncing up and down—an unmistakable yes.

Honestly, I wasn’t too thrilled about it, fearing potential trouble, but I also didn’t want to completely dismiss Lime’s wishes.

Slimes weren’t too dangerous, and if anything happened, I could handle it.

“…Alright. But you have to take full responsibility for them, Lime. If they cause any trouble, I’ll send them away immediately.”

Lime shook his body wildly in joy.

The other slimes, seemingly understanding Lime’s words, also wobbled as if bowing their heads to Sheila and me.

“They seem harmless, but… Sato, are you sure about this?”

“I trust Lime. But if they do attack, will you protect me, Sheila?”

“Of course. I will protect you.”

“Thank you. Then, I think it’ll be fine.”

And so, unexpectedly, three more slimes became part of our group.

They weren’t officially my tamed monsters, but since they were under Lime’s command, I could consider them as part of my team.

Coincidentally, I had been thinking about getting a monster to help with waste disposal soon.

The timing was just perfect.

For now… I hoped we could all get along well.
