Chapter 252: Mount Edelgius
After arriving at Mount Edelgius, we interacted with the people who were practicing agriculture there.
Although it was just giving them some advice, the dragonkin seemed happy, and I was glad we could help.
Seeing that things were going well, it was reassuring to know that agriculture could be carried out on Mount Edelgius without issues.
One thing that concerned me, though, was the future of the people who had moved here, including Drake-san.
If farming could continue successfully on Mount Edelgius, there would be no need for them to stay here, which would be a little lonely. Personally, I wanted them to stay… but the rule is simple: those who leave, we don’t hold back; those who come, we welcome.
I wanted to see them off happily if they chose to leave.
With those thoughts, we followed Drake-san’s guidance to meet Yato-san.
Yato-san apparently lived near the mountain summit, and the castle-like building visible from below seemed to be the home of the dragonkin.
Ashros-san also apparently lived at that castle as an attendant, so to meet both of them, we had to climb the mountain.
Personally, I had hoped for a quick flight there, but apparently, transforming into dragons on Mount Edelgius was prohibited.
The rule on Mount Edelgius stated that the dragonkin could only take dragon form when defending the territory, so flying to the summit was not allowed.
So, we walked along the mountain path for about 30 minutes.
Finally, we reached the castle where Yato-san lived.
Though the path was paved, it had been quite a trek.
“Finally here… surprisingly tough on the legs.”
“Sato-san, you okay? It’s not that bad of a mountain path!”
It wasn’t really a difficult path, but Drake-san’s pace was too fast.
I was sweating lightly and more tired than I expected.
“There’s water—be careful not to collapse.”
“Thank you. I’ll take some.”
Marjis-san gave me some water, and after catching my breath, we entered the castle.
The interior, like the exterior, was Japanese-style rather than Western.
The wooden dragon carvings and dragon-themed artwork were magnificent, giving the building a divine presence.
Despite the size of the castle, there weren’t many attendants. The person who greeted us was a dragonkin woman dressed like a shrine maiden.
“Are you here to see Yato-sama?”
“Yes! Just tell her Sato-san has come, and he’ll understand!”
“Understood. Please wait a moment.”
The shrine-maiden bowed politely and disappeared deeper into the building.
Less than a minute later, loud, heavy footsteps echoed, and Yato-san came running toward us.
“Oh! Sato is really here! Why is Sato here!?”
I managed to catch Yato-san, who barreled in at full speed.
She really was like a wild horse, but seeing her smile happily at me made me instantly lose any urge to be angry.
“Yato-san, that’s dangerous! You could get hurt if I can’t stop you!”
“Sorry, sorry! I was just so surprised to see Sato! But why have you come to Mount Edelgius!?”
“We still have free time from farming, so we wanted to visit your hometown. We’ve come to you before but never visited here.”
“Is that so! How is it! This place isn’t so bad, right!?”
Yato-san puffed out his chest as he stepped away from me.
It truly was a mystical and charming place, genuinely beautiful.
“Yes, it’s a very nice place. It feels quite mystical.”
“Nufufu! Hearing that from Sato makes me happy! The only downside is the food isn’t great, though it’s improved recently! And it’s all thanks to you, Sato!”
“No, no. It’s thanks to the dragonkin’s hard work.”
“Oh! I have something I want to give you! I was planning to bring it the next time, but I’ll give it to you now! Wait in that room over there!”
With that, Yato-san ran back the way she came—truly an energetic person.
“What kind of gift do you think Yato-san has? He’s tried to give something before.”
“Yes, he tried to give me a gem once, but I refused because it was too valuable. Hopefully this time it won’t be too precious…”
I remembered how he had said he wanted to give a gift after seeing Rose-san receive one before.
I hoped the gift wouldn’t be too valuable, and following Yato-san’s instructions, we waited in a room near the entrance, anticipating his return.
