Chapter 250: The Arrival of Spring
After the Christmas party ended, we spent the days idly until the snow melted.
Although these lazy days were enjoyable in their own way… nothing makes me happier than the arrival of spring.
“Sato-san, once again we’ve been blessed with fine weather to welcome spring. It’s wonderful no matter how many times we experience it.”
“Indeed. Sheila-san, I look forward to working with you again this year.”
After bowing politely to each other, we began the farm work.
That said, the work was minimal: we just planted seeds and seedlings in a quarter of the field and watered them.
All the sowing was done by everyone together, and watering was handled all at once using Moji’s and Helena’s water-element magic, so the entire task was finished in less than two hours.
Considering it was right after winter break, it was nice to start slowly and get into the rhythm gradually, but still, the workload was very small.
“It’s already finished, isn’t it? Every year, I really notice how effective our manpower has become.”
“Indeed. Back in the beginning, we had to water everything by hand, which took a lot of time.”
“It’s nice that it’s easier now, and we can even grow more crops as a result, but somehow it still feels a bit insufficient.”
“I imagine it will get busy once things start to bear fruit, so for these first four days, it’s a slow period… But feeling a bit idle—shall we go somewhere to play?”
Even though we had gone on trips between the Christmas party and the arrival of spring, these four days after spring were guaranteed to be free.
If it was a place we could reach in a day, we could go for a little outing, and I suggested that to Sheila-san.
“Ah… then, there’s one place I’ve been wanting to go. Would that be alright?”
“Of course. If you have a suggestion, we’ll consider it positively.”
“I’m not sure if it can be done in a single day… but I’d like to visit Mount Edelgius. They also do farming there, right? I’d like to see how it’s progressing, and I’ve always wanted to see Yato-san’s and Ashros-san’s hometowns.”
Oh! That was an unexpected suggestion, but it’s actually a great idea.
I also wanted to see Yato-san’s birthplace, and just the thought of a mountain where dragons live makes me excited.
The concern, as Sheila-san mentioned, is whether we can make it back in a single day.
Being a mountain, the journey is expected to be steep, and without aerial travel, it might be difficult…
“I fully agree with going to Mount Edelgius, but I’m also worried if we can actually make it.”
“Right. Should we ask Drake-san? There were quite a few dragonkin who returned home this winter, so I’m sure he can tell us whether we can make it or not.”
“That’s the quickest way. I hope Yato-san happens to be around too…”
He just came to the Christmas party, so the chance of that is extremely low.
Even if he were around, it would be unfair to make him rush back, so we shouldn’t rely on Yato-san.
So, we decided to ask Drake-san.
We rode Nyx’s carriage to the dragonkin village, and it seemed they had already finished their farm work and were playing around.
By “playing,” I don’t mean games—rather, it was ball games using the balls I had gifted.
They were divided into three main games: soccer, dodgeball, and volleyball, and their high physical abilities made for intense matches.
I would have liked to teach them basketball or baseball too, but those require special equipment.
For now, they’ll stick with these three games, but eventually, I’d like to hold a full ball sports tournament for them.
“Whoa! Sato-san and Sheila-san! Did you come to check the fields?”
“No, we trust them completely, so no worries. We came because we had a question for Drake-san.”
“A question for me? I’ll answer anything I know!”
“Thank you. Actually, we’re planning to go to Mount Edelgius soon, and we wanted to know if we can go on our own. Also, how many days it would take.”
When I asked, Drake-san stroked his chin, thinking.
“Hmm… I don’t think it’s impossible, but it’s a rough path! On foot, it would probably take three days one way.”
“Three days… I see. It’s definitely possible, but that’s a tough distance.”
Three days one way is not exactly a casual trip.
For most people, it would take three days, and for me, it could take even longer.
“What? If it’s three days and you can’t make it, I can give you a ride.”
“Eh? That’s possible?”
“Of course. Marjis and I can carry a person. Though only one at a time.”
“Thank you! If it’s possible, I’d be thrilled to ride with you!”
“Alright! You’ve done so much for me Sato-san, I owe you big time!”
Drake-san unexpectedly offered.
I should have considered refusing to avoid burdening them, but since they can fly, I immediately accepted.
So, we’ll be able to go to Mount Edelgius riding with Drake-san.
I’ll prepare some gifts for Drake-san and Marjis… I’m really looking forward to it already.
