Chapter 203: An Outing

Summer came to an end, and autumn arrived.

It was the most comfortable season after spring, and farm work was progressing smoothly.

At the start of the season, all we had to do was plant seedlings and sow seeds, so all the work was done by noon.
Until the harvest season began, we would mostly have light work like this.

“Sato-san, could I have a word with you?”

As I munched on my sandwich for lunch, spacing out while looking over the fields, Sheila called out to me.
A talk from Sheila… I wonder what this is about.

“Of course, I don’t mind. Shall we move somewhere else?”

“No, it’s nothing too serious—we can talk here. Um… until the harvest starts, we’ll have a lot of free days, right?”

“That’s right. For about three days, until the crops in the Skill Field ripen, it’ll probably be just like today.”

“I thought so! In that case, would you like to come with me to the city of Renovy?”

The city of Renovy? I’d never heard of it.
I had expected her to suggest taking some time off, but not with a completely unfamiliar destination.

“Where exactly is this Renovy city? As long as it’s not a place that takes several days to reach, I don’t mind.”

“It’s about half a day’s journey, I think. We’ll probably need to stay there overnight, though—would that be all right?”

“Half a day is fine. But what are we going there for?”

“Velvet-san told me about it when we had the summer vegetable curry… Apparently, Renovy is holding one of the largest flea markets in the entire country!”

One of the largest flea markets in the country.
I was surprised to learn that this world had flea markets too. Even back in Japan, I rarely went to such events, but “one of the largest in the country” sounded really interesting.

“A nationwide-scale flea market sounds fun. Is it like, the whole city turns into one big market?”

“I’m not sure about that, but it’s supposed to be quite large. It seems to be going on right now, so… would you like to go?”

“Of course. We might as well check it out.”

“Ah, I’m so glad! Then, shall we leave first thing tomorrow morning?”

“Well… since we’ve already finished today’s work, why don’t we just leave now? It takes half a day to get there anyway—leaving early wouldn’t hurt, right?”

“Leave now…? All right! I’ll go pack right away!”

Sheila, unusually excited, said that with a big smile and hurried into the villa.

Judging by that energy, she’d be done packing quickly. I’d better hurry too.

I stuffed the rest of my sandwich into my mouth and followed her inside to get ready.

After packing up and explaining that we’d be taking a few days off for the trip to Renovy, I got permission, and we set out.

“Sheila, Joel—got everything?”

“Yes! I’m all set! I’ve got my overnight gear, a change of clothes, and some items to sell at the flea market!”

“…Mr. Sato, why is Joel coming with us?”

“Huh? Well, when I mentioned to Lua that we were going to the flea market, Joel overheard and begged to come along, so I said yes… was that bad?”

“No, not bad, but… I was kind of hoping it would be… just the two of us…”

Her voice got quieter and quieter near the end, so I didn’t quite catch that last part.
Maybe Sheila wasn’t too fond of Joel?

Her excitement from earlier had clearly dropped a bit—but it’s too late to tell Joel to stay behind now.

“Don’t worry, I won’t get in the way! I’ve been through my share of battles as an adventurer, after all!”

“Then I’ll be counting on you if anything happens, Joel.”

“Yes! Leave it to me!”

Joel, practically glowing with enthusiasm, pumped his fist in the air.

Meanwhile, Sheila puffed her cheeks slightly, looking a bit sulky—but maybe I could cheer her up once we were in the carriage.

“Ash, we’ll be counting on you again this time.”

I patted Ash’s neck as I spoke, then climbed into the carriage with the others.

Our destination: the city of Renovy.
Filled with excitement for the unknown, we set off from the villa.
