Chapter 16: Choosing a Sword

“That’s great news for you, Sato-san. Let’s not hold back and take the most expensive one.”

“No, no! I can’t choose like that. I’ll pick something I genuinely like.”

“Hehe, that’s just like you, Sato-san. In that case, let me give you a bit of advice. The best recommendation would be a short sword. It’s easy for beginners to handle and very practical. The second choice would be a long weapon like a spear. Weapons with long reach give you an advantage, though the downside is they tend to be heavy.”

A short sword or a spear, huh…

I agree the easiest to handle would probably be a short sword.

Though it might not be the right way to use it, I feel like it could also come in handy for farm work.

That said, the weapon I’m most drawn to is the iron sword I first picked up.

It’s not because I’m trying to be considerate by picking the cheapest one—it’s just that I thought this iron sword looked the coolest.

Honestly, I can’t picture myself being able to wield even the easiest weapon, like a short sword, so if I can’t use it anyway, I might as well go with the one I think looks best.

“…After much thought, I’ve decided to take this iron sword.”

“Huh?! Are you sure you’re okay with a bargain sword?”

“Yes. It’s the one that appeals to me the most.”

“It doesn’t seem like you’re just being considerate… Hmm, Sato-san, you really are hard to read. If you’re set on it, I’ll go call Rozzo.”

“Yes, my mind’s made up.”

“Got it. Please wait here for a moment.”

Sheila headed to the back of the store where Rozzo had gone, and soon returned with him.

“What’s this? Already made up your mind?”

“Yes, I’d like this sword.”

“The one you were looking at first? The cheapest, lowest-quality one… Hey, Sheila, this Sato guy sure is an odd one!”

“Yes. Thanks to him, every day I spend as his bodyguard is so much fun.”

“Gahaha! Is that so? Never thought I’d hear Sheila say something like that! Anyway, if you’re fine with that sword, it’s yours! But hang on, I’ll throw in one more thing!”

Rozzo rummaged through a shelf near the register and brought something over.

It looked like a necklace, but I couldn’t tell exactly what it was.

“Here, take this too! I’d feel weird just giving you a bargain sword after deciding to be generous!”

“Are you sure I can have this as well?”

“Don’t ask what it is! Just take good care of it!”

“Ah, thank you very much.”

The item, which he handed over in a rather pushy manner, looked like a locket pendant.

However, no matter how much force I applied, it wouldn’t open, and I had no idea how to use it.

“Sheila, if you ever need weapon maintenance, just drop by! I’ll take care of it for you!”

“Thank you. I’ll definitely come back to visit.”

“Good! Sato, you’re welcome anytime too!”

“Yes, I’ll definitely return. Thank you so much for everything today.”

The pendant remained a mystery, but after thanking Rozzo, we left his shop.

At first, I found his bold personality a bit intimidating, but in the end, he turned out to be truly kind-hearted.

“Thank you for introducing me to such a wonderful shop. I got a sword and a great memory out of it.”

“I didn’t expect such treatment either. We really owe Rozzo our thanks.”

“Yes! By the way… do you happen to know what this pendant is, Sheila?”

“No, I have no idea. But knowing Rozzo, it’s definitely not just an ordinary pendant.”

“I see. So, it probably has some kind of value.”

“Most likely. I think you can just wear it casually as an accessory for now.”

“True. I doubt I’ll figure it out by overthinking, so I’ll do that.”

And so, we left the weapon shop and headed toward the next destination.

Like Rozzo, the people in this world are all so kind-hearted.

As I strolled through the royal capital, I could feel my spirit, which had been worn down by the harsh reality of a black company, gradually healing.

I enjoyed my exploration of the capital to the fullest.
