Chapter 137: Dungeon Town After a Year

A week passed, and in that time, the entire area had turned into a snowy landscape.

Since we had anticipated the snowfall, preparations for heading to the dungeon were already complete.

We had made all necessary arrangements with those staying behind, including a Snowdeer-drawn carriage capable of travel through snow.

Our dungeon exploration group boarded the carriage and immediately departed for Dungeon Town.

“Well then, Sid-san, we’ll be counting on you while we’re away.”

“Yeah, leave it to me. I’ll take care of the jobs I can do too.”

“You’re a big help. We’ll be back in about two months.”

“Got it. Go earn some good money.”

After exchanging parting words with Sid, who had come to see us off, we departed for Dungeon Town — the first time in a year.

Inside the carriage, there was a surprising amount of tension, and I was also feeling quite nervous myself.

“Sato-san, you seem rather stiff. Are you nervous because it’s been a while since your last dungeon?”

“I’m not afraid of the dungeon itself. I’m just nervous about whether I can actually demonstrate the results of this past year.”

People tend to get nervous when trying to show more than they’re capable of.

Right now, I fit that description perfectly — I’m nervous about whether I’ll be able to defeat monsters like I expect to.

“Master, I shall protect you, so please rest easy.”

“No, I will be the one to protect Sato-san.”

“No, I will protect him.”

The tension between the two was palpable as they glared at each other.

It’s always like this, but I’d really like them to work together this time — after all, we’re part of the same party for the next two months.

“I appreciate your feelings, both of you, but let’s get along. We’ll be operating as the same party for the next two months, after all.”

“I will join forces with Sheila-san inside the dungeon.”

“I understand that much. But still, I will be the one to protect Sato-san.”

“No. Master is my responsibility to protect.”

I want to ask if they really get it, but at least their motivation is clear.

With both Sheila and Helena by my side, I should be okay… I hope I’ll be okay.

As I listened to their fiery exchange, we arrived at Dungeon Town in no time.

When I stepped out of the carriage, Mika and the others were there to greet us — it was our first reunion since the mock battle tournament.

“Sato! It’s been a while! Glad to see you looking well!”

“It really has been a long time. We were lonely without your visits!”

“We wanted to come visit too, but Donny-san was stricter than expected!”

“Yeah, yeah! It was fun, but we really had no time to come see you!”

“It was truly a Spartan schedule. He was a bit considerate, though.”

Seeing all four of them nod as they spoke made it clear — they had been constantly training without any free time.

I have more freedom, but those four really are heroes after all.

“I’m glad to see you’re doing well, but please make sure you take proper rest. If you’re not getting at least two days off a week, tell me. I’ll have a firm word with Donny-san.”

“Fufu, Sato, you’re still weird! Don’t worry, we do get breaks!”

“We just didn’t get any long vacations! Not sure if your philosophy is catching on or not, but even with the Spartan training, we got rest and breaks, so it’s fine!”

“Then I’m relieved to hear that.”

Hearing about Ren and the others’ current state really put me at ease.

Sounds like Donny-san’s doing a great job managing them — I’m glad.

“We’ve already been told it’s okay to attend the Christmas party, so we’ll be staying with you for about a week!”

“That’s the plan, but just to be sure — we are having the Christmas party again this year, right?”

“Of course we are! And please stay for the whole week! A lot has changed, and I’m sure you’ll all enjoy it.”

“Seriously? I’m really looking forward to it! Honestly, the Christmas party has been our biggest motivation.”

“Same here. Last year’s party was so much fun, just thinking about it gives me the strength to keep going.”

“I’m really glad you feel that way.”

If it helps support these four, then I’ll make sure to hold a Christmas party every year.

It’s a ton of fun for me too, and honestly, it’s the only real event during the winter season — I wouldn’t miss it.

Enjoying the reunion with Ren and the others, I headed to the inn.

It seemed they had reserved rooms for us in advance, so check-in went smoothly.

Now all that’s left is to wait for Yato-san and Ashros-san to arrive — and then, we’ll begin the dungeon expedition.
