Chapter 46: Rumors 2
My first request was at a young man’s home.
I entered, assessed its condition, and began cleaning.
The living room contained so many things that there was little space to step.
It had already been dirty, and the earthquake had knocked more things from the shelves, leaving it disastrous.
After inspecting everything, I immediately bagged the rubbish, swept and wiped the floor, and polished it until it shone.
I also washed the dishes. The filthy room became clean within an hour.
“Thank you. Thank you so much!”
The man thanked me repeatedly as I prepared to leave.
After completing the first request, I returned to the Adventurers’ Guild.
“Reina, I’d like to submit my completion report and see another request.”
“Understood. Choose one while I process this.”
“All right.”
As Reina instructed, I examined the forms.
While doing so, I glanced at the screen at the edge of my vision.
◇
[Cleaning] training completed.
1 EXP acquired.
EXP until next level: 12/100.
◇
Even after acquiring the skill, I gained EXP extraordinarily quickly.
I grinned and selected my second request.
Reina completed the procedure, and I left the guild.
My second job was also household assistance.
It paid one silver coin.
The site was a rather large mansion.
“Thank you for coming.”
The client was an elegant woman.
I entered and inspected the site.
The mansion had once been kept clean, but the earthquake had scattered its furniture.
Apparently, she lived with her husband, but he was away, which was why she’d submitted the request.
After assessing everything, I began immediately.
“My, incredible. In one hour, it’s even cleaner than it was before. Thank you.”
The woman said that happily once I finished.
I left her and checked the screen on the way back to the Adventurers’ Guild.
◇
[Cleaning] training completed.
1 EXP acquired.
EXP until next level: 39/100.
◇
“Could I raise the skill level today?”
Only two hours of cleaning had produced that much EXP.
I smiled at the thought of raising the skill level.
It already had such a strong effect at Level 1.
What would happen when its level increased?
The thought alone excited me, and I hurried back to the Adventurers’ Guild.
“Reina, please.”
“Of course.”
When I handed her the report, she showed me the request forms.
They’d changed while I was away.
Until this morning, she’d shown me household-assistance requests together with other work.
Now, however, every form before me involved household assistance.
“Did you separate the requests for me?”
“You seemed to want only household-assistance work today, so I gathered those.”
“Thank you, Reina!”
I thanked her, accepted my third request, and completed the procedure.
This request also paid one silver coin.
When I arrived, a prosperous-looking man and his butler were waiting.
The estate was rather large, and I was assigned to clean a study.
“Um, is it truly all right to let an adventurer enter somewhere this important?”
“I wouldn’t entrust it to an ordinary adventurer. However, I’ve heard the rumors about you. They say you work quickly and carefully.”
After hearing that I often accepted household-assistance requests, the man had submitted one.
Following his instructions, I cleaned the study.
“Ha ha ha. You truly cleaned it at an astonishing speed. Please accept this as a small token of thanks.”
In addition to the listed reward, he gave me three silver coins.
I would’ve refused if it had been Marina or Hanna because I’d already received things from them repeatedly.
However, this was the first time this man had given me anything, so I accepted gratefully.
Once he signed my report, I left and returned to the Adventurers’ Guild.
“My, did this client say anything to you?”
“No. He smiled pleasantly the entire time. Did something happen?”
“He pays well, but he’s somewhat difficult to please. I thought you’d be all right and let you accept the request. It seems there was no problem.”
“He was very kind.”
When I said that, Reina looked puzzled.
As I selected another request, I checked the screen again.
◇
[Cleaning] training completed.
1 EXP acquired.
EXP until next level: 63/100.
◇
The EXP was rising at an extremely high pace.
Two or three more requests would probably raise the skill level.
With that thought, I searched for something involving a larger cleaning job.
The reward mattered less than how difficult the work appeared.
Then I found a request offering ten silver coins and decided to accept it.
