Chapter 134: Feather Charm

Trying to escape from that place, Ren hurriedly slipped between the people around him and started walking without any particular direction. Just as he was about to continue forward, he nearly bumped into someone.

“Whoa. Where are you rushing off to?”

Hearing that familiar voice, Ren looked up.

It was Eugene.

“Eugene-san……”

Eugene seemed to notice something from Ren’s expression and tilted his head slightly.

“Did something happen? ……I was just about to bring some congratulatory gifts to Yuan-kun and Yona-chan. Would you like to come with me?”

“Congratulatory gifts?”

“Yes. A gift from their uncle. I also brought gifts for you and the others, Ren-kun, though they aren’t exactly congratulatory presents.”

“For us too?”

Ren followed behind Eugene as he went to give his gifts to Yuan and Yona.

Yuan was currently receiving some kind of congratulatory present from the next Noisette Count and his wife. Holding the package in his hands, Yuan’s eyes were shining.

“Thank you very much!”

“I look forward to seeing you become a splendid knight.”

The next Noisette Count said this while lightly patting Yuan’s shoulder.

After having a short conversation with Yuan, the next Noisette Count left.

Then Eugene spoke to Yuan.

“Yuan-kun. I’m Eugene Sucre. I’m your mother’s younger brother, your uncle.”

“Ah, you’re my uncle? Hello!”

“Congratulations. This is a gift from me.”

“Thank you very much!”

Yuan happily accepted the wrapped gift from Eugene with a smile.

At that moment, perhaps Yuan noticed Ren standing behind Eugene, because his eyes briefly shifted towards him.

The item Yuan had received from the next Noisette Count, the package from Eugene, and the gifts he had received before that—Yuan was already carrying several wrapped presents in his arms.

Eugene called out to a servant who was walking a short distance away.

After saying something quietly, the servant brought over a small table.

“You can’t carry everything, can you? Put them there for now.”

“Ah, yes……”

Yuan placed the gifts he was holding onto the small table and looked relieved.

“If you had an attendant, they could carry them for you. You can have them moved to another room later.”

“Yes.”

(Attendant……)

Hearing the exchange between Eugene and Yuan, Ren reacted to the word “attendant.”

He remembered his grandmother’s earlier words about “making Ren an attendant.”

Ren guessed that it probably meant a servant who stayed by someone’s side and accompanied them.

Yuan began opening the gifts placed on the table.

There were many things, including wooden swords and magic stones placed inside beautiful boxes.

The gift from Eugene was a leather writing case, a quill pen, and a small inkpot.

The quill pen was made from a slightly glossy, pale feather. It wasn’t flashy, but somehow it looked expensive.

Every time Yuan opened a present, his smile grew brighter.

(I should give him something too……)

Ren slipped his hand into his pocket and used the “Small Box” skill.

From inside the pocket, he took out a rainbow-coloured feather charm.

It was made from small feathers of the Rainbow-Tail Feather Bird that couldn’t be used for arrow fletching or quill pens. He had tied those tiny feathers together with a leather cord.

He had made several of them. He hadn’t originally planned who he would give them to, but Ren personally thought:

“Rainbow-coloured feathers are definitely cool!”

So he had carefully kept them.

“Yuan…… congratulations.”

Ren held the rainbow feather charm out to Yuan.

It wasn’t wrapped in cloth or anything, but there was nothing he could do about that, so he simply offered it as it was.

Yuan’s eyes widened, then his face immediately brightened into a smile.

“Ren-niisan, thank you! Wow, it’s really pretty.”

“Because it’s rainbow-coloured.”

Seeing Yuan happily looking at it, Ren nodded with satisfaction.

He then headed towards Yona, intending to give her one as well.

On the way, Eugene caught up with him and spoke quietly.

“Ren-kun, was that feather charm you just gave him made from Rainbow-Tail Feather Bird feathers?”

“Yeah. ……Ah.”

After answering, Ren suddenly realised something.

Just like with the azure feathers before, there might be people who wanted them for making quill pens.

He had only just thought of it now.

“There are only tiny feathers left…… Do you think someone might ask me for a quill pen?”

“If someone does, just tell them to submit a request to the Adventurers’ Guild. But although they’re rare, I hear the azure feathers are currently more popular, so you probably don’t need to worry.”

“The rainbow ones are cooler though……”

Ren felt slightly dissatisfied.

If rainbow feathers became too popular, that would cause problems too, but he also didn’t like the thought of them being completely ignored.
