Chapter 130: Kurikara Dragon King
The next day.
If what Yato-san said was true, then today was the day her parents would be arriving.
I had finished preparations the day before, but I still couldn’t shake off the nerves.
“Yato-san, do you know what time your parents will arrive?”
“Hmm? Not even I know that! But I think they’ll be here before nightfall!”
Not knowing when they’d arrive left me with a constant sense of anxious anticipation, but there was no helping it. I decided to spend the time as usual and get to work on the farm while keeping an eye on the sky.
Thanks to Yato-san and Ashros-san helping out, we finished all the farm work before noon.
Just as I was thinking “Well, I guess they’re not coming in the morning,” and heading back to the villa for lunch, I noticed a man standing imposingly right in front of the villa.
Physically, he wasn’t even as large as Donnie-san, but the pressure he radiated was overwhelming.
He had two thick, twisted horns on his head—there was no doubt in my mind: this was Yato-san’s father.
Even though I’d been watching the sky, I had no idea when he arrived. And standing quietly behind him was a graceful-looking woman—her mother, surely. At some point, both parents had arrived without me noticing.
“Ah! Father, Mother! Sato, those are my parents!”
“I figured as much. I’ll go greet them now.”
Even though his imposing stance was intimidating, I mustered up my courage and stepped forward to face Kurikara-san.
“Nice to meet you. My name is Sato, and I’m a friend of Yato-san.”
“……So you’re Sato.”
“Yes. Thank you very much for coming such a long way.”
“I do not recognize yo—ugh!”
Just as Kurikara-san was glaring at me and about to say something harsh, the woman behind him—presumably Yato-san’s mother—smacked him hard on the back of the head.
“Please excuse my husband. I’m Tia, Yato’s mother. Feel free to call me Tia.”
Tia-san stepped in front of Kurikara-san and introduced herself with a warm smile.
She looked like a taller, far more seductive version of Yato-san—at least a hundred times more enchanting.
Both Kurikara-san and Tia-san had human appearances but with horns, just like Yato-san. It was clear they’d shifted their forms to appear human. Kurikara-san had jet-black horns, while Tia-san’s were pure white.
“Nice to meet you. I’m Sato. Then, I’ll call you Tia-san.”
“Don’t get too familiar with my wife, you—ugh!”
“Really, I’m sorry about him. He seems to think you’re trying to steal his daughter, so he’s being overprotective. Please don’t take it personally.”
Even though she smacked Kurikara-san hard, she continued to speak to me kindly, smiling all the while.
I had been so afraid of meeting them, but seeing how Tia-san clearly held the upper hand, and realizing Kurikara-san was only acting gruff out of love for his daughter, made him seem more like a doting dad than anything scary.
“Sato! Why are you smiling at me like that!?”
“N-no reason at all! Please, it’s not much, but come inside.”
“Thank you, Sato-san.”
I asked Sheila-san to have everyone else wait outside for a while so I could speak privately with the three of them. With Tia-san here, I figured things would go smoothly, and my nerves were already much calmer, so I could handle this on my own.
“Please, have a seat. I’ll prepare some tea.”
“Thank you for your kindness.”
“…Hmph.”
I brought them into the living room and went to prepare the tea I’d set aside for today.
According to Yato-san, both Kurikara-san and Tia-san had a sweet tooth, so I planned to serve a nice, sweet milk tea to surprise them.
While preparing it…
“Dear. You said you’d behave properly, remember? What was with that attitude just now?”
“Th-that’s because… I saw Yato looking like she was having more fun with Sato than with me, and I got annoyed!”
“That’s a good thing. I’ve told you time and time again—being overprotective is a problem. And taking it out on Sato-san is completely out of line. First, apologize. And if you behave rudely again… you know what happens, right?”
“Ugh… I understa—”
“No mumbling!”
“I understand!”
I could hear their whole conversation, and it sounded like Kurikara-san was getting thoroughly scolded.
He’s supposed to be the mighty dragon king, but… this is definitely not what I expected.
Clearly, Tia-san was the one who wore the pants in the relationship, and I decided to pretend I hadn’t heard a thing as I carried over the milk tea.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. This is called milk tea—it’s a drink from my world.”
“A drink from your world? So… a beverage from another world?”
“Yes, that’s right. Please, try it if you’d like.”
“Why would I drink a foreign—”
“Dear?”
“Ugh… Sato, I apologize.”
“No worries. I’m really not bothered. I think you’ll enjoy it, so please try it.”
Looking sulky, Kurikara-san took a sip of the milk tea I had served.
At this point, I could only see him as a big version of Yato-san, and as I watched with a gentle smile…
“Th-this is… delicious!? What is this drink!? —It’s too delicious!”
His sulky expression vanished, replaced by a huge smile as he chugged the milk tea in delight.
I was relieved that he liked it, and just like with Yato-san, his emotions were so easy to read. Watching him was genuinely entertaining.
