Chapter 103: Magic Orbs

When I rubbed the magic orb as instructed, a yellow mist-like aura surrounded me.

It was strikingly similar to what Ren-san used during the mock battle tournament, and my body felt incredibly light.

“How is it? Do you feel the magic working?”

“It’s amazing! My body feels incredibly light all of a sudden!”

It felt like my body had returned to its teenage years, and I began hopping around in high jumps.

With this magic orb, maybe even I could fight!

That hopeful thought began to form in my mind, but…

“Ah, please be careful! That light feeling is only temporary due to the magic, and your body will feel the recoil afterward!”

After hearing that from the shopkeeper, my excitement dropped instantly and I stopped jumping immediately.

If I threw out my back from getting too excited over magic, it wouldn’t just be a funny story.

Even with magic, it became clear that age is still a limiting factor.

“It’s truly incredible, but I suppose this proves that magic isn’t all-powerful.”

“If you use a healing magic orb, you should be able to recover even if you get hurt!”

“Oh, healing sounds great! Sheila-san, don’t you think it’s worth buying a healing orb?”

“I agree, healing orbs are useful. Only Yui-san can really use healing magic anyway, so having a few on hand might be wise. By the way, how much does one cost?”

“A healing orb is one gold coin. For a high-healing orb, it’s five gold coins.”

It’s a fair price, but still quite steep.

I still had two platinum coins, which meant I could buy 20 healing or 4 high-healing orbs.

It would be a bit depressing if two months of dungeon-crawling turned into just four magic orbs, so for now, I’d stick with regular healing ones.

“Should we go with the regular healing orbs?”

“I don’t expect us to suffer major injuries, so regular healing orbs should suffice.”

“Alright. I’ll take five healing orbs, please.”

“Thank you very much! That’s five healing orbs! Are there any other orbs you’re interested in? We also carry offensive spells like Fire Arrow!”

Offensive magic was also very tempting for me.

Wouldn’t it be good to have at least one for self-defense?

When I glanced at Sheila-san, she seemed to understand what I meant and gave me a small nod.

“Then I’ll also take one offensive magic orb. Do you have any recommendations for something strong I can buy with one gold coin?”

“With one gold coin, you can get a high-level offensive spell! My personal recommendation would be… Hail Blizzard!”

“That name sounds awesome! Then I’ll take five healing orbs and one Hail Blizzard orb.”

“Thank you! That’ll be six gold coins in total!”

“I’ll pay with one platinum coin.”

“Alright, and here’s four gold coins in change!”

For a spontaneous stop-in, I ended up spending a decent amount, but I didn’t think it was a bad purchase.

Healing goes without saying, and with a name like Hail Blizzard, that orb must be powerful.

Still… the shopkeeper said earlier that she made all of these magic orbs herself.

Which means she’s capable of using High Heal and the high-level spell Hail Blizzard.

“Um, may I ask something? That means you can use High Heal and Hail Blizzard, right?”

“Yes! As I mentioned earlier, I graduated top of my class from the magic academy! Just between us… I can even use super-class magic.”

“Super-class magic! I don’t know much about magic, but that sounds really impressive!”

“Hehe, I love your reactions! If there’s a chance, I’ll show you sometime!”

“I’d love that! I’ll definitely come back!”

“Please do! I’ll be waiting!”

Waved off with a smile by the shopkeeper, we left the Magic Cabinet.

We had only stopped by because the shop caught our eye, but it turned out to be a truly amazing place.

It might just be because I love magic, but everything about it was enjoyable.

The shopkeeper seemed like an incredible person too—she even said she could use super-class magic.

“Sato, that was a really great store.”

“Yes, it was a lot of fun! Can I ask—how powerful is super-class magic?”

“It’s incredibly powerful. Magic progresses from beginner to intermediate to advanced, and above that is super-class. Very few people can use it—there aren’t even 100 people in the whole of Greylan who can.”

“Wow, it’s that rare?! Even Yui-san can’t use it?”

“I don’t think so. Yui-san is a healer, and she seems unable to use anything other than recovery magic. I can only use offensive magic myself. It’s hard to balance both unless you’re exceptionally gifted.”

So, even among magic users, there are types: offensive, support, and recovery.

And it seems most people specialize in just one.

“…That means the shopkeeper from earlier is absolutely amazing, isn’t she? The magic I used was support magic, right?”

“Exactly. She can use offensive, support, and recovery magic—and even super-class spells. She graduated top of her class, too. In terms of raw ability, she’s likely on Donny’s level.”

“That’s incredible… She looked so young, too. I wonder why someone like her is running a magic item shop.”

“Well, people have their own paths in life. She seemed happy, so maybe this is what brings her joy.”

Sheila-san, despite being strong and desiring a combat role, was once forced into a servant’s position.

Maybe because of that, her casual words carried weight.

“You’re right. We only live once, so doing what we love is best.”

“Yes. I plan to live freely, and you should too, Sato-san.”

“Absolutely. Let’s live happily, without regrets!”

In high spirits from our chat, we wandered around Lanzole for a while before heading back to the villa.

Having bought a magic crystal for Ash too, he pulled the carriage in good spirits the entire way—making this trial ride a great success.
