Chapter 268: It’s a Date (Primula’s Chapter)②

Rest and Primula walked along the designated path inside the Royal Museum, taking their time to admire the exhibits.

“This staff here is the ‘Lamius Magic Staff.’ It was crafted 150 years ago by the sage Lamius Lahit, a member of the Council of Sages. It’s said to greatly enhance the power of ice-element magic.”

“Huh, interesting.”

“And over there — that stone is the ‘Loose Root Magic Stone.’ It was extracted from the body of a magic ape that once terrorized the southern regions of the kingdom. Apparently, it contains incredibly pure magic energy, but since no practical use has ever been found for it, it’s been sitting untouched in the royal treasury.”

“I see.”

“And look, there’s ‘Schval’s Sword!’ That belonged to Sir Schval Dero, one of the Five Dragon Generals who fought alongside the founding king. He was known as a Sword Saint! They say Schval had no magic power whatsoever, but his unmatched swordsmanship alone earned him the title of the strongest in the kingdom. Some even say he was the child of an ogre!”

“Fascinating.”

Primula’s cheeks were slightly flushed, her excitement clear as she eagerly shared her knowledge.

The exhibits were impressive, but… to be honest, Rest was finding it even more enjoyable to simply watch Primula’s enthusiasm.

Usually so quiet and reserved, Primula’s passionate side was something he’d never really seen before — it felt like catching a rare glimpse of a hidden side of her.

(Huh… this feels like a little reward in itself. You don’t get to see Primula like this every day.)

“Ah… I’m so sorry! I’ve just been rambling on, getting all worked up on my own… you must be bored, right?!”

“Not at all. Quite the opposite — I’m having a great time.”

Rest answered honestly, easing Primula’s sudden worry.

“I’ve always been interested in magic items, so your explanations are actually really helpful. I’d love to hear more.”

“R-Really? In that case…!”

Primula blushed, looking genuinely happy, and tugged at Rest’s arm as she led him along.

Carried away by Primula’s unusually cheerful energy, Rest followed along without any resistance.

“This way is… ah!”

“Hmm?”

As they ventured deeper into the Royal Museum, something familiar came into view.

“Sabnock…!”

It was the preserved head of the magic beast Sabnock — once the king of the monsters that ruled the eastern plains outside the capital.

The beast’s full body had been far too large to fit inside any building, so only its head was on display.

After being offered to the royal family, the severed head had been put on public display for all to see.

Even just the head was much larger than an elephant.

Its lifeless eyes still seemed to glimmer with frustration, and through its slightly open mouth, sharp, menacing fangs could be seen.

“The mighty ruler of the plains, brought down in the end. Quite a fall, huh?”

“Y-You actually fought against a monster like this, Rest…?”

Primula gripped his arm tightly and hugged it against her chest.

The soft, warm sensation pressed against his arm — but before he could even think about it, her anxious, almost scolding gaze met his.

“Please… don’t do anything so dangerous again. Both my sister and I… we’d be so worried.”

“…I’ll do my best.”

Rest turned his head away, as if trying to escape her gaze.

He couldn’t help but wonder how Primula would react if she ever saw the elder wyrm he’d fought on a commission from the Lavender Margrave family.

(She’d probably scold me. Or maybe just worry herself sick… either way, I’d get an earful.)

“Rest…”

Primula’s voice turned a little sulky as she called his name, and she gave his arm a light pinch.

“Ouch, Primula.”

“You promised, okay?”

“……”

He really wanted to agree sincerely, but… for some reason, the words didn’t come easily.

(I’ve got a bad feeling I’ll be facing more monsters like that in the future… no, I’m probably just overthinking it.)

The odds of fighting a monster like Sabnock more than once in a lifetime were astronomically low.

And yet… that unshakable, nagging feeling in his chest left Rest wearing a slightly strained smile.
