Just another Isekai Lover~

Chapter 265: It’s a Date (Viola Arc) — Part 3

Suddenly, angry shouting echoed throughout the restaurant.

Turning toward the source of the noise, though feeling annoyed, Rest spotted two men grabbing each other by the collar in a heated scuffle.

Beside them stood a woman, sniffling and crying.

“Meliana is my woman! How dare you lay a hand on her!”

“Don’t be ridiculous! Meliana is my fiancée!”

“Eeeen, eeeen… please, don’t fight over me, you two!”

“…A lover’s quarrel, huh.”

It only took a few exchanged lines to figure out the whole situation — a classic lover’s spat.

Apparently, the two men were fighting over the same woman.
But Rest wasn’t fooled.

The woman caught in the middle, although putting on the act of sobbing, had a sly smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.

She was clearly enjoying being the center of attention, reveling in the fact that two men were fighting over her.

“Hey, Rest. What do you suppose those people are doing?”

“Ah… looks like they’re fighting over a woman. It’s pretty common, actually.”

“Pretty common? But aren’t romantic relationships usually arranged between families? For them to fight like that… isn’t it strange?”

Viola blinked in surprise, looking genuinely puzzled.

In noble society, relationships and marriages were arranged between parents and families.
Among lower-ranked nobles, marrying for love wasn’t unheard of, but for the higher nobility, especially the aristocracy, choosing your own partner was extremely rare.

“Among commoners, arranged marriages and political matches are pretty rare. They usually don’t worry about family interests or social advancement — they marry the person they fall in love with.”

“I see… I’ve heard about that before, but to think you can marry anyone just because you love them… that’s such a wonderful thing.”

“…Is it, though?”

It sounded beautiful in theory, this idea of marrying for love.
But after seeing the messy spectacle unfolding right before them, Rest found it hard to agree without hesitation.

“Whether it’s a love marriage or an arranged one, I think as long as both people respect each other, they can be happy.”

In Rest’s own case, his engagement to the Rosemary sisters had brought him happiness.
It was his magic talent that had led to him being chosen as their fiancé in the first place.

The prestigious Marquis Rosemary family, known for their magic lineage, had picked him as an adopted son-in-law to strengthen their bloodline.

If Rest hadn’t possessed magic ability, even if the sisters had loved him, their parents would’ve likely never approved the engagement.

“You’re right… I feel the same way.”

Viola smiled as she reached across the table and took Rest’s hand.

Love marriages can end in divorce or breakups, and even arranged marriages can lead to happiness.
In the end, what really matters is the willingness to care for and respect each other.

Rest quietly reflected on that thought.

The two of them shared a warm, gentle moment amidst the noisy, rough atmosphere of the tavern — but the pleasant mood was quickly shattered.

“You bastard… drop dead!”

The argument between the two men had finally escalated into violence.

One of them grabbed a bottle from a table and hurled it at the other, who barely managed to dodge.

“Watch out!”

“Kyaa…!”

The bottle, having missed its target, flew straight toward Rest and Viola’s table instead.

Without hesitation, Rest stood up and caught the bottle with his free hand — the one not holding Viola’s.

“That was close…”

“Thank you, you saved me.”

“…Yeah. Just stay here for a moment.”

Rest gently released Viola’s hand.

And then, turning his sharp gaze toward the fighting men’s table, he started walking in their direction.

“You piece of crap!”

“Tch… take this!”

The two men were still locked in their brawl, completely oblivious to the fact that their little quarrel had almost gotten an innocent bystander hurt.

“…Guess their parents never taught them how to apologize, huh.”

If that was the case, Rest figured someone had to teach them — and he’d be more than happy to fill in.

Bottle still in hand, Rest walked steadily toward the troublemakers, ready to give them a much-needed lesson.
