Chapter 259: Looks Like I’m Getting Another Fiancée

At the townhouse of the Marquis Rosemary family in the royal capital, Rest was being interrogated by two beautiful young women.

“I mean… as expected of Celestine. Her resolve in critical moments is something else…”

“To bathe together even before the engagement is official… terrifying…”

Under pressure from Viola and Primula, Rest ended up spilling everything about what happened in the fishing village.

Well—not everything, but mostly the part where he bathed with Celestine and, unofficially, was hinted at a possible engagement.

When the Rosemary sisters heard this, they both pouted in unison, clearly sulking.

“Umm… are you mad?”

“Not mad.”

“We’re not angry.”

Apparently, they weren’t angry.

But they definitely weren’t in a good mood either.

“We’re not mad, but… it does feel like she caught up with all the lead we had in one go.”

“Lady Celestine has been engaged to that Prince Rodel for years and endured so much. She’s mentally strong, that’s for sure.”

“Ah… So, I heard you two already accepted the idea of me and Celestine getting engaged…?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“We gave our approval.”

The sisters nodded simultaneously in response to Rest’s question.

He’d heard Celestine had gotten their permission while at the hot springs… and apparently, that was true.

“We might’ve mentioned this before, but… our mother has been trying to push a bunch of concubines onto you. So we figured, it’s better if we bring in Celestine—she’s a friend, after all.”

“If my sister, myself, and Lady Celestine secure your side, then none of the concubines that come later will be able to outmaneuver us. It should help both the Marquis Rosemary and Count Clover families prosper.”

“I see…”

Rest made a conflicted face.

Despite being engaged to both of them, Rest still hadn’t shaken off his commoner mindset.

He wasn’t yet noble enough to take things like polygamy or having mistresses for granted, the way Viola and Primula could.

“Besides… Celestine is our friend. We don’t want to just sit by and watch her be unhappy.”

Viola let out a sigh, her expression tinged with sorrow.

“The Crocus Ducal House is a family connected to the royal bloodline. A lower-ranking noble could never marry into it. Most suitable men—both by status and age—are already married or engaged. If you reject her, she’ll be stuck either unmarried for life or forced into a bad match.”

For example:

—A man far older than her.

—Or a powerful figure from the allied Geizel Empire.

The former was unthinkable, and the latter could easily turn into a political sacrifice depending on how international affairs shift.

Celestine had already suffered enough as the fiancée of a worthless prince. No one close to her wanted to see her get wrapped up in another miserable engagement.

“Second Prince Andrew clearly isn’t interested, and the Crown Prince’s fiancée is notoriously jealous. So… in the end, I think you’re the best option, Rest.”

“I feel the same. I just want Lady Celestine to be happy.”

“…I see.”

In other words, everything around him was already settled.

The only thing left was the inner moat—Rest’s own feelings.

(It’s not that I dislike her… I mean, Celestine is beautiful, and she’s got a great personality. It’s just… is someone like me really good enough for her?)

“I’ll… do my best.”

Though he was still torn, Rest nodded.

He wanted Celestine to be happy, too.

During the trip, she’d proven just how capable she was—and how well she complemented Rest’s shortcomings.

“Two marquis’ daughters and now a duke’s daughter… I guess I really do need to rise in the world…”

A count wasn’t going to cut it.

If he wanted to be worthy of these radiant young women, he’d need to aim much higher.

Rest was once again reminded just how far his position in society had shifted.

“It’d be nice if it stopped at three…”

“Yes, it would…”

Viola and Primula exchanged a look and gave wry smiles.

“But I’ve got a feeling there’s going to be one more.”

“Yes… and probably very soon.”

“Huh? What’s that supposed to mean?”

Rest tilted his head in confusion—

—when suddenly, the door to the room burst open.

“Hey everyone! I’m back!”

Charging in was a familiar girl: Rest’s classmate and friend, Yuri Catreya.

“L-Lady Catreya, please…!”

“Not in that outfit…! Ah, the floor—!”

The Rosemary family’s servants scrambled after her in panic.

For a moment, everyone was just confused.

Then they understood why.

“Wha—Yuri! You’re covered in blood!”

“Lady Yuri!? Are you hurt!?”

Yuri’s clothes were drenched in blood.

She didn’t seem to be injured herself, but if not, she looked like someone who just walked away from a brutal murder scene.

“I just had a little fight with my father. Don’t worry, I won.”

“Your father—wait, you mean… Marquis Catreya!?”

Marquis Iljas Catreya—Knight Commander and the strongest warrior in the kingdom.

Did she just say she fought him… and won?

“Anyway, enough about that—Rest!”

“Y-Yes!?”

“Marry me!”

“………………………………Huh?”

A sudden confession.

Rest froze, completely blindsided, and let out a dumbfounded squeak.

“So exciting, so exciting…!”

Yuri sparkled with joy as she eagerly waited for his answer, like a child waiting for Christmas morning.

Not only Rest, but even Viola and Primula were too stunned to speak.
