Chapter 74: Fast Work
“A request? If it’s something I can do, I’ll be happy to help. What is it?”
“Sorry to ask right away, but I need a recharge. The reason I came over today is that I completely ran out of battery.”
Sid handed over his DVD player, looking apologetic. Sure enough, it was out of charge and wouldn’t turn on.
Well, six hours of battery life isn’t much… Considering the trouble of coming all the way here, I’d like to give him a generator too. But at 15,000 NP, that’s not something I can just hand over casually.
“Of course, I don’t mind. As I mentioned the other day, if you come here, I’ll recharge it for free. It should be fully charged in a few hours.”
“That’s great! Looks like it’ll be done while we work.”
“Yes, it should be finished by then.”
“Hearing that, I can focus on the job without worries. So, what kind of house do you want me to build? I came prepared to build a regular house, just in case.”
I looked behind Sid and saw three carriages stopped, pulled by creatures similar to the Snow Deer we rode during the winter trip to the Dungeon Town. Logs were visible among the supplies—he had come fully prepared.
“Would you mind waiting a bit? I didn’t expect you to come this soon, so I need to discuss it with my housemate first. Would you like to wait inside?”
“No, my workers are here too, so I’ll wait in the carriage. Come get me when you’ve decided.”
“Understood. I’ll sort it out quickly, so please wait just a little while.”
I relayed that to Sid, then hurried off to find Sheila. It was still early, so she might be asleep… but since I promised to consult her, we needed to talk properly.
“Sheila, are you awake?”
“I’m up. Come in.”
I reached for the doorknob—but then it hit me. This was my first time entering Sheila’s room. Taking a deep breath to clear my thoughts, I stepped inside.
I had imagined a more feminine space, but Sheila’s room was surprisingly simple. A bed, a dresser, and a sword. That was it.
“Good morning. Sorry for disturbing you so early.”
“It’s fine, I was already awake. Did something happen?”
“The carpenter I hired in the capital just arrived. He wants to know our preferences for the house.”
“He’s already here?! In that case, let’s step outside and discuss it properly.”
“Yes. Let’s quickly decide where and what to build, then inform him right away.”
Sheila and I went over the location and basic structure of the new house. Since we were making Sid wait, we rushed the discussion a bit—I regretted not preparing in advance.
But still, I never expected him to start work this soon. There wasn’t much I could do about the hasty planning now.
Besides, Sid was Rozzo’s brother. He’d manage somehow… probably.
After finalizing our decisions, I relayed them to Sid, and work began immediately.
We chose a location slightly away from the villa and farm, considering the possibility of future expansions.
As someone with a background in construction management, I was extremely curious about the building process. That’s why I positioned it where I couldn’t see it from the farm—otherwise, I’d be too distracted.
Sid had brought three workers along, making a total crew of four.
Even if it was just a simple single-story house, Sid confidently declared it would be finished in about ten days.
In Japan, strict building regulations mean it typically takes at least three to four months.
So, finishing in ten days must mean they were using magic.
In fact, the three workers with him didn’t look like carpenters at all—they were surprisingly slender.
…I’m really curious. Incredibly curious.
But I had my own work to focus on.
Between Sid’s gifts and the solar generator purchase, I had used up a lot of NP. I needed to earn it back.
Slapping my cheeks to refocus, I set my distractions aside and threw myself into farm work.
