Chapter 48: Floor Boss
The monster before me was clearly dangerous—if I stood in its path, I’d surely be sent to the afterlife within seconds.
My knees began trembling, but everyone else appeared completely at ease. Even Lime and Mash showed no signs of fear.
“I-It certainly has an ominous presence, as expected of a floor boss…”
“Minotaurs are weak! Like I said earlier, as long as you don’t get hit, there’s nothing to be afraid of!”
Mika said this casually to reassure me, then strolled toward the minotaur as if she were going on a leisurely walk.
I wanted to stop her, but before I could speak, the minotaur locked onto Mika with murderous intent and swung its massive axe down at her.

But the axe passed right through Mika, missing completely, and slammed into the ground with a loud crash.
For a moment, I thought the minotaur had simply missed. But then I realized—Mika had dodged with nothing more than a subtle movement.
Her footwork was so light that it almost seemed like the axe had phased through her.
The minotaur swung again, but Mika easily evaded the second strike and slipped into its guard.
“And that’s game!”
With a short declaration, Mika threw a punch.
The next moment, the enormous minotaur was sent flying.
A slim woman like Mika had just punched a three-meter-tall, heavily muscled minotaur into the air.
It was like something straight out of an anime or manga. Stunned, I could only clap in awe.
“You really took it down effortlessly! Mika, that was incredible!”
“Nah, this is nothing! Besides, it’s not over yet!”
“Yeah, these guys are surprisingly tough.”
I turned to look at the minotaur—it was already trying to get back on its feet.
Even after such a powerful blow, it only had a slight bruise on its stomach. It was still more than capable of fighting.
“Shoji, hold it down. I’ll finish it with magic.”
“Oh great, I get the tank role again! Always the boring job!”
“You’re a knight, so just accept it. Just support Yui properly.”

Yui began chanting a long spell while Shoji rushed forward to keep the minotaur occupied.
At about 180 cm, Shoji was tall for a human, but he looked small standing next to the minotaur.
Yet, for some reason, I didn’t feel like he was at a disadvantage.
That gut feeling proved correct—Shoji engaged the minotaur head-on.
Unlike Mika, who dodged, Shoji was blocking its massive axe directly.
Even to my untrained eyes, it was clear—Shoji was overpowering the minotaur in raw strength.
“I’m ready. I’ll give the signal, so get out of the way, Shoji.”
“Got it! Anytime!”
“Here I go. 【Flame Explosion】!”
A surge of magic energy burst forth, and an explosion engulfed the minotaur.
A blinding light filled the floor, followed by a wave of heat that reached even me.
As the light faded, I turned my gaze toward where the minotaur had been—
“The minotaur… disappeared?”
“Not disappeared. Just blown to bits by Yui’s magic. …She usually wouldn’t use such a big spell on a minotaur, but I bet she wanted to show off for Sato.”
“Ren, we agreed not to mention that! That makes it embarrassing!”
“She obliterated that massive monster… That was amazing! You four really are like heroes!”
I clapped enthusiastically, showering them with praise.
There was no exaggeration—it genuinely felt like I had just watched an anime or played a game in real life.
“I might have gone a little overboard at the end, but this is what dungeon diving is like. Did we help you get a better understanding, Sato?”

“Absolutely. Thank you so much! It was fun, and now I understand how dungeon exploration works. I think we’ll be able to go in on our own starting tomorrow.”
“Glad to hear it! …Though honestly, I don’t want you going into dungeons at all. I’d hate for you to die.”
“Agreed. We’d rather be your permanent escorts. But… with Sheila around, you should be okay in the lower floors. Sheila, make sure to protect Sato, no matter what.”
“Of course. I will guard him with my life.”
They were probably worried because of my [Otherworld Farming] ability, but still, it was touching to see them so concerned.
More than anything, I needed to make sure I survived—and that I didn’t become a burden to Sheila.

And so, we retraced our steps and exited the dungeon.
There were no dangers on the way back, and our first day of dungeon exploration ended on a smooth and comfortable note.
