Chapter 54: Superhuman Mona

“This is Mona. I have arrived at Admos. Commencing infiltration of the royal castle now.”

I could hear Mona’s voice through the walkie-talkie in my hand.

Mona had left around noon, and now it was night.

She had apparently already reached Admos.

“Wow… it’s that fast if you fly in the air?”

Nara-kun, who had walked all the way here, was amazed at the speed.

Now that I think about it, he had said it took about a week to get here.

Hearing that the distance had been covered in half a day must’ve made him feel down.

“Understood.”

“Oh! You sound so cool, Maya-san!”

This guy… When he first appeared, he had a mysterious vibe, but now he’s completely taken on the role of a subordinate junior.

Well, he’s got a stable life here, he has a girlfriend, friends, and someone from his hometown.

Maybe the stress from living in this other world is finally being relieved.

But he still can’t shake off the trauma of having killed someone. Eva had mentioned that he occasionally has nightmares.

As for me, I’m not a psychiatrist, and I was only in my second year of high school back in my original world, so I don’t know how to help him.

Time will heal, or he’ll just numb himself, like I did.

…Honestly, the latter seems like the easier option.

But if I do that, Nara-kun would be branded an enemy of the world.

I can’t bring myself to do that.

“This is Mona. Infiltration of the royal castle successful. Heading to the office now.”

“Oh, you’re already in? That was quick.”

“This flying board is just too good. With this, I can infiltrate anywhere.”

“Well, if you do, I’ll count on you again.”

“Understood. I’ll be cutting off communication for a while now.”

“Got it.”

With that, Mona’s transmission ended.

“Infiltrating the royal castle, huh… Isn’t that where the real challenge begins?”

Ivern, who had been listening to the communication between Mona and me, said with a serious expression. But with Mona, that’s not really an issue.

“She used to be part of the former demon nation’s intelligence department. She’s good at infiltration. Apparently, she can use magic to hide her presence.”

“Mona-san really is quite the cheat, huh.”

“Cheat?”

“It means ‘amazing!’”

“No, that’s not what I meant.”

This guy really does speak without thinking.

Seriously, where did his mysterious aura go?

“So what does that mean!? Do you know, Maya-san?”

“‘Cheat’ refers to unfair advantages or things like that. So, for me, Nara-kun, and people like us from this world, our powers are considered ‘cheats’.”

Hearing that, Nara-kun had a surprised look on his face.

“Huh, Maya-san, you’re the same age as me when you were over there, right? How do you know something like that?”

“Ah, when I was in my world, I liked playing FPS games a lot. I absolutely despise cheaters.”

“Wow.”

Nara-kun looked impressed, but then Ivern’s next comment made him panic.

“Yeah, you guys really do have an unfair advantage.”

“Hey! That’s not our fault, right? Right, Maya-san?”

Ivern was grinning while teasing Nara-kun, and Nara-kun desperately looked to me for help.

“Well, yeah, having immense magic power and high physical abilities from the start is, in a way, a cheat.”

“What!? Are you admitting that?”

“But we haven’t become this strong just because of that. We’ve been training and studying to make that power usable. And there are others who got the same power but couldn’t make use of it, right?”

When I said that, Nara-kun clapped his hands.

“Ah! Ota! What happened to him, by the way?”

“We’ll have Mona look into that too.”

“Right.”

Well, now that they’re trying to summon again, it’s easy to guess he’s probably been discarded.

Though, considering how much tougher people from other worlds are compared to those from this world, he won’t be executed, but he’s likely been cast away.

As we were talking, Mona contacted us.

“This is Mona. I obtained the information surprisingly easily.”

“Ah, as expected. So, what did you find out?”

“It seems that the request made to Lindor has been approved, and they plan to depart for Lindor at the beginning of next week.”

“You were able to get that information too?”

“What’s going on with this country’s counterintelligence? It’s almost defenseless.”

“Well, there aren’t any humans around here who can use magic to hide their presence or conceal things. It’s unavoidable. Oh, and how about Ota-kun?”

“Apparently, he was cast out of the castle as a useless good-for-nothing.”

As expected.

Just as I thought.

“I’ll explore the town to check on this Ohta person before returning.”

“Understood. You can take a little time to relax, too, you know?”

When I said that, there was a brief pause in Mona’s response.

“Mona?”

“…No, I think I’ll head back right after exploring the town. I’m a bit anxious about leaving the house unattended.”

“Ah, I see.”

The women staying in this house are two former princesses and a former explorer.

They help out, but Mona mostly takes care of the housework.

The dinner we had earlier was just reheated food that Mona had prepared.

“I’ll be cutting off communication for now. I’ll contact you if anything comes up.”

“Got it.”

With that, the communication ended, but Mona contacted me again almost immediately.

“Kenta-sama.”

“Hm? What’s up?”

“…I’ve found Ota.”

Upon hearing this report, we exchanged glances.

“That was fast.”

“Well, when I first went to the Adventurer’s Guild, there was an adventurer who kept pestering the receptionist…”

“Oh?”

“I overheard him boasting about something… saying he would become the guild’s ace soon and that everyone should look forward to it.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“The adventurer’s name was Ota. He fits the description you gave perfectly.”

Even though he was thrown out of the castle as useless, why is he so optimistic?

…Wait, could it be…?

“Is it that? He was thrown out as useless, but now he thinks, ‘Actually, I’m the strongest,’ or something like that?”

“…!?”

Mona seemed really surprised by my words through the radio.

“What’s wrong?”

“…I was surprised because what Ohta said when he came out of the guild was exactly the same as what you just mentioned.”

“Seriously?”

“I went back to the guild to ask about him. They said he has strength, but he’s terrible in battle, and even though he claims he can use magic, he’s useless in combat. Honestly, they think he’s more of a hindrance than anything.”

“…Huh? It hasn’t been that long since Nara-kun and I kidnapped Eva, right?”

“…Right. Only a few days.”

“Yet he’s already the subject of rumors like this… Ota-kun might be in trouble.”

When I said this, both Nara-kun and Eva frowned in obvious disgust.

“I really don’t like that guy.”

“Neither do I!!”

Well, Nara-kun seems to have put in a fair amount of effort, and Eva is a strong-willed, natural-born idealist.

It’s no surprise that they both dislike Ota-kun.

From that alone, you can tell what kind of person he is.

No matter what power Ota-kun has gained, if he doesn’t put in the effort, it’s useless.

We can just leave him be.

He’s no threat.

After making that decision, a few hours later, in the middle of the night, Mona returned.

She had made a round trip from here to Admos in one day and completed her espionage mission.

She even made breakfast the next morning before going to sleep.

…Is she some kind of superhuman?
