Chapter 53- First Round

“Dammit, I can’t see anything!”

“Kane! For now, give us some ‘Support’! Everyone, get behind me! ‘Steel Shield’!”

“Oh, right. ‘Support!'”

As I heard Kane’s party panicking in the sudden black mist, I carried Remi and Alicia under each arm.

“‘Flash Step (Magic)’!”

“Kyah!!”

“Whoa!”

With the skill activated, I quickly put some distance between us and Kane’s group and glanced back at them.

Alright, we’ve made it out of the black mist’s range.

While Kane’s group was still trapped in the mist, the distance we had covered allowed us to move outside its coverage. Here, we would have more freedom to act.

I gently lowered Remi and Alicia to the ground.

Remi, still wobbly from the sudden movement, collapsed onto the ground in a daze.

“W-What just happened? So suddenly…”

“Kane’s group made a move, so I cast the mist for defense, that’s all.”

“Just cast a mist, you say…”

Remi still looked like she had more to say, but we didn’t have time to waste.

When I looked over at Alicia, she had already drawn her compound bow and was ready.

“Alright, Alicia. It’s up to you now.”

“Yes, leave it to me.”

With a relaxed smile, Alicia nodded and drew her bow.

She focused intently on the area where Kane’s group had been, then pulled back her bowstring.

“‘Magic: Swift Wind’… ‘Sniping.'”

As Alicia chanted, a small ring, just wide enough for an arrow to pass through, formed at the tip of her arrow.

She released the arrow, threading it cleanly through the ring.

*Shuunn!!*

The sound of the arrow cutting through the wind was followed by a dull metallic crash.

*Bang!*

“Whoa! What was that sound?!”

“Something hit my shield! It’s their attack!”

Kane shouted in surprise, and Zard, who had blocked Alicia’s attack with his shield, followed up with a yell.

As Kane’s group, their voices filled with panic, scrambled, Alicia calmly readied her next arrow.

“Hit right away, huh? So, that’s the spot… ‘Magic: Swift Wind,’ ‘Miagic: Swift Wind’.”

Alicia formed two instances of *Swift Wind* at the tip of her arrow. Then, with the same graceful form as before, she drew back her bow.

“…’Sniping.'”

*Shuun!!*

The arrow, passing through both *Swift Winds*, flew faster than before, slicing through the air with an even louder metallic clang.

*Gagyan!!*

“Whoa! That impact was way stronger than the last one!”

“Damn it! What’s going on?! Hey, Lena! Hurry up and dispel this mist with your magic!”

Kane and Zard’s frantic voices could be heard, but Lena never responded to their calls.

“Hey, Lena! Do something, now!”

Kane, losing his patience, shouted again, but there was still no reply from Lena.

…Looks like it worked.

“Lena-san? Wait, no way. This is bad! Lena is gone!”

As I felt sure our plan had succeeded, a panicked voice from Emi rang out.

“Gone?! No way! Where could she go in this mist?!”

“I-I don’t know! Don’t ask me!”

Hearing Emi’s raised voice, a smile spread across my face. It seemed Lilina had successfully carried out our plan.

“Magic: Swift Wind, Magic: Swift Wind… ‘Sniping.'”

*Bang!! Crash!!*

“Guh! No! If we move recklessly, we’ll get targeted!”

Zard was struggling, doing his best just to protect the two behind him from Alicia’s relentless attacks.

…Just as I thought. Having only Zard as the frontline fighter was a flawed setup from the start.

“Alicia, we’ll be moving in a bit.”

“Yes, understood.”

After giving Alicia those instructions, I turned to Remi, who was standing nearby.

“Well then, Remi-san. See you at the Adventurers’ Guild.”

“O-okay.”

A little while after Remi left, we wrapped up our attacks on Zard and withdrew from the area.

They probably won’t make any significant moves until the *Black Mist* fades.

After enduring so many of Alicia’s attacks, they won’t be able to act rashly.

“Alicia, let’s use the *Concealment* skill just in case while we move.”

“Understood. Let’s go.”

I took Alicia’s extended hand, activated *Concealment*, and we quietly made our way through the forest.

Our destination wasn’t the cave but an entirely unrelated place.

Yes, the rendezvous point with Lilina.
