Just another Isekai Lover~

Volume 3

Chapter 1: Amidst the Steam of Hot Springs

“Hmm…”

I let out a small groan while looking up at the moon from inside the bath.

One troublesome matter has been resolved.

Yes, the visit from that bastard of a Marquis… and the rejection.

Nobles are still as annoying as ever, and it ended up confirming that Saran is a ‘heartless person.’ But amidst the flow of events, I haven’t caught up with all the various discussions that took place.

“Hey, Rolo.”

“What’s up, Jurg?”

“What’s going to happen to Malhas?”

“Well, it was said that Malhas will become a royal territory and a church district, if I remember correctly.”

No matter how many times I ask, I can’t seem to grasp the meaning, so I sink into the water.

I don’t understand what’s going on at all.

But I did understand that Saran cleverly used mine, Fimia’s, and his own positions to his advantage.

“So what does that mean? Malhas won’t be part of Hilte’s territory anymore, and the king will rule directly?”

Poking my head out of the water, I ask Rolo.

“It’s like it’ll be governed by both the king and the pope. And practically speaking, Saran will be handling everything.”

“It’s quite a mess for this remote rural town.”

“But I think it’s a perfect resolution.”

Roro wipes the sweat off with a smile. Even from a man’s perspective, he’s oddly alluring, and his perennial beauty makes me sigh lightly. I can’t help but feel a bit suspicious as to why Fimia chose me over Rolo.

“Ugh… it’s interesting to say the least. I never expected Saran to make such a big bath for us.”

“Yeah. I got a bathhouse built in my house too, but… this one feels really nice. Being outdoors is nice.”

“It might be troublesome if it rains, though.”

Rolo voices a concern, but that might add to the atmosphere.

…This bath was a place we managed to persuade Saran to build.

Adventurers tend to be a bit unclean. During winter, there are guys who haven’t wiped themselves once, and come summer, some emit a terrible stench.

We occasionally request magic for ‘cleanliness’ from Rolo or other mages, but if the basic hygiene isn’t maintained, it could lead to an epidemic when the city grows larger… So we asked Saran to develop it.

Saran seemed to have some thoughts on it and readily agreed to it. Thanks to him, this unnecessarily large public bath was built on the outskirts of the new city.

Despite the kingdom being vast, Malhas is probably the only place where the Adventurer Guild operates a public bath.

“Do we entrust cleaning and maintenance here to the adventurers?”

“We’ve hired the former village chief as a resident staff. And we’ve also hired a few others for management.”

Since Malhas has changed so much, it’s necessary to provide support for those who can no longer continue their previous livelihoods. Some have already started new jobs, but we can’t leave those who haven’t behind.

If Malhas is changing, it’s only logical to show them how to live in the changed Malhas.

“Um, since Jurg is the employer, weren’t there any unpleasant reactions?”

“Well, some. …Some even left the village.”

For example, Kent, who was supposed to be the next village chief, resisted until the end and ended up leaving Malhas. Perhaps he couldn’t bear the change in his life. Well, I don’t like him anyway, so I don’t feel too guilty about it.

“And once we start accepting more adventurers, kids will come, right? We should create some odd jobs.”

“Yeah, that’s true.”

In Adventurer City Advante, there are many beginners like that.

It might be out of admiration or necessity for a living.

But if you don’t have the physique or the know-how, the adventurer’s occupation is not easy. In most cases, it’s either becoming prey to monsters or ending up as roadside bones.

Once upon a time, Rolo and I were reckless beginners like them.

Considering that, being invited by Saran at an early stage… I should be grateful for it as a lifesaver.

“The guild master has a lot to think about and it’s tough, huh?”

“Sigh… I wouldn’t mind if you took over for me anytime.”

“No way! Absolutely not! I’m better suited for support.”

Indeed, yes.

Even if our positions were to change in the current situation, I doubt I could do the same work as this outstanding childhood friend of mine.

Rolo Mercia is like the lubricant that smoothly turns this large gear called Adventurer City. Sometimes noticing the details and solving them ahead of time, and sometimes giving orders from the front lines.

With good relations with everyone in the city, just having him in the patrol makes the number of trouble incidents drastically decrease that day.

That’s why I feel like giving him some kind of title.

Ah, I see. Now I understand how Old Lady Mayor of Advante feels.

“Oh, were you two here too?”

“Saran, huh? That’s rare. What brings you here?”

“This is also the result of my work. I wanted to check on it.”

With fogged glasses, Saran appeared at the public bath holding a bottle of fruit liquor.

Despite pretending to be coincidental, he must have come here to drink with us.

He’s not straightforward.

“Thanks to both of you for dealing with the matter of Marquis Efron. Thanks to you, he was able to leave without any trouble.”

“I think there was some trouble, though?”

“Was it because you ordered all the guards to leave? Or because you made a strong threat to the Marquis?”

“You’re the one who instigated both, aren’t you? Honestly.”

He snatches the bottle of alcohol and takes a sip.

The chilled lemon liquor goes smoothly down his throat.

This is also something that Malhas didn’t have before.

“This is delicious. Rolo, try it.”

“Okay.”

Handing the bottle of alcohol to Rolo, he turns back to Saran.

“Is that really okay?”

“Officially, the Marquis Efron’s family and the Count Zolark’s family have a loose relationship as political enemies. They must have felt like their own backyard was being raided.”

“Hey, are you sure it’s okay?”

“Taking that into account, it’s the Royal Territory and Church District. I made full use of yours and Fimia’s positions.”

Saran drinks happily from the bottle he received from Rolo.

Looking at him like this, he has become quite the adventurer.

He would never have done things like sharing drinks when we first met.

“The official name is ‘Supervision Special Directly Governed Territory for Selection.’ In short, it means you can do whatever you want in the name of the king and the pope. There are also tax reductions and exemptions, as well as dispatches of royal troops and holy knights. It’s going to be busy from now on.”

Honestly.

He’s making my hometown more complicated one after another, this sly glasses-wearing guy.
