Chapter 70

From a different perspective,

Wagner, upon hearing that Georg and the others had arrived, finally breathed a sigh of relief. It had been a long journey—sneaking into Asgard as a refugee, volunteering as a soldier, and finally earning trust. His efforts were finally bearing fruit.

“Hehehe, with this, even I, a mere third son of a noble, am sure to earn favor in the eyes of Georg-sama.”

He grinned as he held the map of the mine allocated to him and the magic gun-sword. The training in Asgard had been truly rigorous. He couldn’t help but think it might have been even tougher than the training soldiers received in the capital city.

But perhaps it was time to bid farewell to that. All he had to do now was gather his belongings and join forces with Georg’s unit. Lost in these thoughts, he was startled by the sound of a knock, causing him to involuntarily tense up.

“Who is it?”

“Oh, Wagner. Still up, huh? Good. The battle against the ant-mine is about to begin, right? So, to boost morale, Grace-sama gave us some wine, potatoes, and ham. Want to have some together? Of course, it’s our little secret from Vigna.”

With a mischievous grin, Vice Captain Neil appeared at the door. Despite being a former farmer, he was a monster who had endured Vigna’s special training until the end.

Honestly, even Wagner, who had undergone regular training, found it impossible to keep up with that special training. It must be something he really wanted to protect. Or perhaps he was just an M…

“Thank you for the invitation. However, I was just about to go to bed… I’m terribly sorry. Please invite me again.”

“I see. Well, it’s better to let loose when you feel like it, you know? Anyway, we’re having a drinking party at the training grounds, so feel free to drop by if you feel like it.”

“Yes, thank you. Please be careful not to drink too much.”

He responded to Neil and casually glanced at the mirror, only to realize he was wearing a smile and clicked his tongue. Ah, yes. Life here wasn’t so bad after all.

In this world where one’s status didn’t define them, where one’s combat prowess wasn’t the sole criterion, Asgard was a place where weak and strong alike could pursue what they loved.

The everyday life where skills not suited for combat weren’t ridiculed wasn’t so bad. The routine of complaining about training with them and drinking alcohol with potatoes as snacks wasn’t so bad either.

“But… even such an everyday life can be crushed by overwhelming power…”

Wagner packed his belongings and left his room. Faint laughter echoed from the well-lit training ground.

Surprised by the momentary urge to head there, Wagner decided to continue down the mountain.

If this mission succeeded, he would receive a decent reward. Though he couldn’t return there anymore, as a reward for this mission, he could negotiate their treatment even if Asgard fell under Georg’s control in the future. Reminding himself of this, he continued on his way.

As Wagner descended the mountain, he found Georg’s unit gathered, preparing for the battle at the mine, just as described.

“I’m Wagner, the one who was on the infiltration mission. I’d like to meet the commander.”

“Huh? Oh, you’re… Ah, the spy we had hidden in Asgard… What was your name again…”

Despite inwardly feeling displeased by encountering this unpleasant individual, Wagner spoke up. The man before him was his former superior, competent but selfish, and someone he didn’t particularly get along with.

The man smirked and looked down at Wagner as he spoke.

“Oh, perfect timing. I’ll join you too.”

“No, but…”

This time, Wagner had been forcibly sent to Asgard on this guy’s orders, with vague instructions to “infiltrate Asgard and gather information.”

Despite that, Wagner had worked desperately to earn trust and obtain the gun and map in order to gather information.

Yet this guy seemed intent on appealing to the commander as if his orders were superior. Wagner was about to retort instinctively when a sharp pain shot through his abdomen.

“Urgh…”

“A mere third son of a local noble defying me, huh?”

“Yes… I apologize for my insolence…”

I had no choice but to obey him without complaint. Damn it, none of this would have happened if it weren’t for Asgard…
