Chapter 191: Monsters, Commence

Turning their attention back to the screen, Sakura and Keisuke continued to gather information intently.

On the internet, there were numerous summary sites of the “Otherworld Transfer Incident,” and countless related videos were uploaded.

“Oh, doesn’t this site look promising? It seems to have detailed timelines in chronological order.”

“That’s great. Let’s follow up from the part about one year after the transfer.”

“Let’s see… one year… ah, it’s around here.”

Day 365: Returnees Surpass 890,000

-It seems the existence of another world is confirmed. To deny it, everyone’s testimonies match too well.

-Regarding the occupations obtained by individuals, physical occupations such as “Warrior” overwhelmingly dominate, followed by “Production,” “Magic,” and “Special” occupations in that order. This bias is likely due to the high proportion of adventurers being warriors. The majority of cases involved challenging dungeons, dying, and returning to Japan.

“Do the memory holders really possess occupations and skills? So far, it seems like they’re all self-reported.”

“Hmm, I wonder. Maybe there are no holders of the Appraisal skill?”

“If there were Appraisers among the returnees, there would have been more commotion…”

“Even though they returned here, they might be surrounded or captured by the government. There’s that possibility.”

“I see. That’s unfortunate…”

Various information is available, but at this point, nothing seems certain. Maybe they’ll understand more if they read further.

Day 375: An Anomaly in the Waters of Japan

On this day, a strange membrane-like substance appeared faintly surrounding Japan.

It spread in the shape of a dome, covering the range from Hokkaido to Kyushu. The outer perimeter of the membrane is about 10 km from the coastline and extends upward in a semi-circular shape from there.

Subsequent investigations revealed that it appeared continuously from the seabed to the sky. At this point, there were no physical hindrances other than its appearance.

“… This is undoubtedly some kind of barrier, isn’t it? It seems to be functioning without problems for now.”

“Yeah, I think so too. It’s probably caused by the Sun and Moon Goddesses, or maybe the other village chief.”

“So… does this mean that the return to Japan has happened by this point?”

“That possibility is the most likely.”

According to Seira’s story, it was right after the Imperial Sage last confirmed it… It was the 365th day of his contact with the two goddesses, and he returned to Japan 10 days later. Considering the timing, I think it makes sense.

“If we assume that… it’s been half a year since the Village Chief of the Kingdom returned to Japan. There’s still a lot of progress to be made.”

“Maybe they’ve already taken control of all of Japan? Well, let’s see what happens next for now.”

Day 390: Discovery of Unidentified Creatures

Unidentified creatures began to be sighted in mountainous areas throughout Japan. Large boars, spiders, rabbits with fangs, and sightings of goblins were reported, with some evidence captured on video.

These creatures, later classified as “monsters,” caused damage by raiding crops and household food supplies. However, they never attacked humans directly and would flee as soon as they were discovered.

So far, there have been no reports of human casualties. They seem to possess a certain level of intelligence, and there’s even a possibility that goblins understand Japanese.

“I see, so it’s happening like this…”

“With the variety of monsters, the connection to the other side seems likely. Maybe dungeons are being created.”

“If that’s the case… there could be at least dozens, or even over a hundred, if we’re unlucky. It’s worrying that they’re only appearing in mountainous areas.”

“It could simply be that they’re formed from the magic elements on the surface.”

“In that case, areas with forests might have higher concentrations of magic elements.”

This is just speculation, but it doesn’t seem like dungeons.

Judging from the types of monsters on the surface, it seems like they’re conquering five dungeon levels. It’s hard to believe that this has happened in such a short period and is being conquered all over the country.

It might develop into a situation where they start appearing not only in mountainous areas but also in towns. Or maybe… there’s a double punch of dungeons and natural occurrences.

“Nevertheless, it’s concerning that the monsters aren’t attacking people.”

“Indeed, it’s completely different from the other world.”

“It was all about ‘all humans must die’ kind of stuff there.”

“According to this information, it seems like the monsters on Earth have high intelligence. They might be rational or even cunning.”

“Depending on how you look at it, that might be scarier. They might form villages, establish a goblin kingdom… or even form armies.”

“I see, there are plenty of possibilities.”

Well, if it’s just goblins, they can be swept away with firearms… but if they spread all over the country, it’ll be tough to deal with.

“… Well, if there are monsters, we need to change our plans. Let’s go outside and set up a barrier around my home. Even though it’s Japan, we shouldn’t let our guard down.”

“Yes. We might be able to see some monsters. Let’s go quickly.”

There’s a small forest nearby. There might be a possibility of them springing up from there too.

◇◇◇

As they were about to step outside, they realized that their attire was odd. There was a possibility they might encounter neighbors, so they decided to change into casual clothes first.

Wearing mismatched outfits for Japan, along with weapons and armor, would lack credibility if they tried to pass it off as cosplay.

“This kind of reminds me of the first day. Back then, I borrowed clothes from you, Keisuke-san. It feels so nostalgic.”

“I remember it clearly too. But… when we’re inside the house, I can’t quite tell if this is Japan or another world.”

“You’ll see once we go outside. Come on, let’s go.”

Taking precautions, they only carried weapons and left the front door open. Sakura stood close behind, clutching the bag containing magic stones tightly.

Stepping outside, the first thing they saw was the block fence and gate. Everything seemed unchanged from their time in Japan. Although they had disappeared upon their transfer, now everything was back to its original appearance.

Heading towards the vegetable garden in the yard, they checked the exterior of the house and the storage shed.

There were no signs of disturbance, and the plants in the garden were neatly trimmed. By the way, all the vegetables in the garden had been harvested.

“It seems like someone has been regularly taking care of it for the past year and a half.”

“Was it your grandfather who did this?”

“And probably my nephew helped out too.”

“They seemed to get along well. Wasn’t he in high school?”

“During long holidays, he often stayed overnight and spent the whole night playing games. His influence probably made me like things related to other worlds.”

In the end, there was no change in the premises compared to before the transfer. Naturally, there was no barrier either.

“Alright, let’s try out some magic. Test it with and without magic stones. Also, I want to see if there’s any difference with or without the barrier.”

“Understood. I’ll keep it low-key and use minimal power.”
