Chapter 60: Bowman’s workshop

“I sent the hoe out to the king, and you know what he did? He smashed it right in front of me. Can you believe it?”

“I don’t believe it. The human authorities really don’t understand the importance of invention. Now listen to me. You see the human city down there? When I was making the sculptures there…..”

“Master, you look absurdly familiar with the art…..”

“Well, Grace is Bowman-sama’s number one pupil. I’m certain Bowman is very fond of him. In Asgard, eben while drinking, he enjoyed talking about Grace and Vigna.”

After we entered the workshop and I was briefed on the facilities, we had a little chat, and things got quite lively. I’d been building and helping Bowman with something since I was a kid, so not only was there no shortage of conversation, there was no shortage of things to talk about.

We had a lot more to talk about, like the Dwarves’ unique technology and inventions.

“I never expected that Bowman would take on an apprentice and a human one at that. I keep getting letters asking me to help Grace. We’ll do whatever it takes.”

“Damn you, you’ve gone to great lengths…..”

I was so pleased to see that Bowman was being unusually considerate and that he cared about me, that I couldn’t help but slap my mouth.

“Well, can you make this magic bayonet? I’ve got the blueprints, so if there’s anything you don’t understand, just ask. But why is Gimli here?”

“Oh, originally I and Bowman-san were both in this workshop. Would you like to see Bowman’s work?”

“Oh, I see. I’m a little curious. Galatea, would you mind waiting here for a moment?”

“Yes, Master, I’ll take care of it. Dwarves, if you have any questions about magic bayonets, please feel free to ask.”

I thanked Galatea for replying with a smile, and I followed Gimli. And when I open the door to the back room, the smell of mold is muffled.

“It smells pretty bad…..”

“Well, even when I was there, I only opened the door when I was cleaning the room.”

The room is filled with a few tools, books that look like reference materials, and a number of rather large bottles of liquor. The most conspicuous item among them is probably Bowman’s work, which is displayed on the wall.

There’s a finely carved stone statue, a lantern, a model of a house made of mithril and stone, and a highly decorated armor and sword, probably for ceremonial purposes.

“What was Bowman like when he was here? Oh, this is beautiful. Let me touch it.”

I found a shiny mithril lantern and was intrigued by it. It looks like it has a lot of gimmicks.

“Oh, do what you want. I’m sure Bowman-san won’t mind if you touch it. You’re right. He was a genius of hard work. He was the most skilled metal worker among the dwarves, not to mention the best at sculpture and the like. Thanks to him, our handling of mithril has risen to another level. But there is one drawback. ……”

As I listened to Gimli’s story, I held up the lantern. While I was admiring the glittering lantern, which was probably processed in some way, the bottom suddenly gave out and a small bottle of something fell out. I quickly caught it.

“What’s this? It smells like alcohol!”

“Oh, this is it. Bowman-dono has a great sense of fun. He’s always tempted to drink alcohol while working in the mine, but he once got drunk and got into trouble. Since then, he has been banned from bringing alcohol into the mine, but I’m sure Bowman-san has tried all sorts of creative ways to get it into the mine.”

“You guys really only think about drinking!”

I was reminded of the Grace statue as I listened to Gimli’s story. He was certainly a playful guy. ……

“And he was also a kind-hearted man. When someone had to go to your country, he was the first one to raise his hand. We drank together for three days and three nights to mourn their parting. And in gratitude, we have kept this room as it is.”

“I see……”

I wonder how he felt when he left his homeland, how he felt when he was with me. He wasn’t allowed to be playful with his creations when he was in the castle.

For him, the time he spent with me was ……

“Don’t look at me like that. You’ve heard that Bowman said he enjoyed his time with you, and that’s why he went with you to Asgard.”

“I see… Later, tell me what Bowman’s favorite drink was.”

How many times am I going to make the same mistake? He says he had a good time with me and I laugh at my own stupidity.

There’s only one thing I can do now. Save Dwell and talk about my hometown with him over Bowman’s favorite drink. I’m not going to let a bunch of mineral ants get the better of me for that.

“And this is from Bowman-sama. He has always treasured it. It was given to him directly by the king, and he treasured it. He asked me to take it because it might be of some use.”

Gimli then held out a very heavy box. When I opened it, I found a long tube-like object.

There’s no way ……

When I hurriedly touched my hand, the voice of the “World Library” echoed in my brain.

———————————————————————————————–

Shotgun.

A large caliber, large gun that is used at close range and disperses a large number of bullets at the instant it is fired.

Although shotguns are far inferior to rifles in terms of penetrating power and range, they are much more effective at hitting small, swift animals and flying birds because they spread out.

————————————————————————————————————————-

Is this the prototype of the shotgun he developed with Noel? And maybe because we developed our own shotgun, albeit a large one, I have more information available to me than usual.

I can get more of the mechanism, etc. in my head. With this technology, perhaps we can make something smaller?

I returned to Galatea and the others with my heart racing with new knowledge.
