Chapter 100: Let’s Ask for Rare Materials

A forest of small trees was growing in front of us. We can no longer call it a bald mountain. Let’s call it Mount Claire from now on.

What should I do now? I was going to write in my letter to father that “Mt. Claire has become a bald mountain,” but that is no longer the case.

I was going to condemn the landowner, but the evidence for that has faded. This is troubling.

“Kyu”

“Oh, Mira, I’m having a bit of a headache. That’s right, Mira, let’s go check it out together.”

“Kyu!”

I didn’t have to go near the mountain, but to distract myself, I headed for the mountain with my escort in tow. Of course, Marth-san is also with us. Perhaps his blood as a researcher was agitated, he was keenly observing the tree that had just grown so rapidly.

“Kyu!”

Mira was happily jumping around. It seems that she prefers to be outside rather than inside the mansion. Maybe it’s better for her to be in the great outdoors. The mansion is too small.

If that is the case, it would be necessary to place this mountain under the control of the Heine family. That way, Mira can run free on this mountain.

“Julius-sama, the effect of the plant nutrients is wonderful. If you use this, won’t you be able to easily grow the plants and flowers necessary for magic potions?”

Marth-san asked with a twinkle in his eye. Well, it’s not hard to see why he would think so.

“─ Plant nutrient cannot be used continuously on the same plot of land, you know. If you do that, the land will soon die. You have to leave an interval of at least one year.”

“I see. I see. So your research has progressed that far. As expected of the high-ranking potion master, Margaret-sama.”

You tried, Marth-san. As a researcher, you may have wanted to show your concern. But even I can predict that the land is likely to dry up.

I strolled around in the mountains with Mira. There seems to be no particular problem.

Let’s be honest with  father. I dealt with the fact that Mt. Claire had become a bald mountain. Now it is overgrown with low trees. This is all we have.

After making sure they had used up all the plant nutrients, I instructed him to “keep the mountain under control” and we headed home. By the time we reached the compound, it would be time for lunch.

As soon as we returned from Mt. Claire, lunch was immediately prepared. Apparently, they had sent a warning to the mansion. Really well done, our knights.

After washing my hands, I headed for the dining room. Of course, I wash Mira’s hands and feet as well. I put a apron on her and entered the dining room with her under my arm. Rosalia was already there.

“I’m home, Rosalia.”

“Welcome home, brother.”

“Kyu”

“Mira is back, too.”

Over lunch, we talked about the events of the morning. I didn’t talk about the fact that they had grown so big as soon as I gave them the plant nutrient. If I told Rosalia about it, she would probably use it as my new saga. It was indeed a strange sight to see a tree grow so quickly. Even I could tell.

“Letting Mira out to roam free?”

“That’s right. Yes, she likes it when I take her to a place where there is a lot of nature. That’s why I thought it would be better to bring her up in a more spacious place, instead of in a small mansion.”

“Why not in the garden?”

Garden. It is true that our family has a large garden. It might be possible to let her run free in the garden like dogs. But holy dragons are supposed to grow quite large, as I recall. If so, it would surely become too cramped at some point.

In that respect, Mt. Claire would not be a problem in terms of space. It is not far from here, and if we keep it under our management, we can restrict access to the mountain. It would be better for the future.

But as for Rosalia, she probably doesn’t want to leave Mira. It might be okay for her to stay as she is until Mira gets a little bigger. Maybe I’m being a little too lenient with Rosalia.

“I’ll let her run free in the garden for a while then. Is that okay with you, Mira?”

“Kyu!”

She answered cheerfully, which probably meant that it was okay. We’ll see how it goes for the time being. If it becomes too cramped, we will move to the mountain.

The magic tools Rosalia is making will take a little more time. I gave her some advice, so I think it should be finished soon.

After lunch, I decided to write a letter to father in the Royal Capital and at the same time make a request to an adventurer for rare materials. I left Mira with Rosalia and retired to my room.

Putting aside the letter to my father, I don’t think it would be a good idea for anyone to know that I was requesting rare materials.

Father and Lionel know that I used the rare material to make a panacea, but most people don’t know about it. When people ask me why I would want such materials, I have no way to answer.

I have a habit of collecting rare materials, and no matter what I say now, it would be unconvincing. But, however, if I don’t somehow collect rare materials, I can’t make additional elixirs. It’s good to have a lot of trump cards on hand, you know.

“The materials I don’t have on hand right now are careless grass, purple slime powder, gumbo shells, marc berries, world tree leaves, and dragon’s blood. I think I can handle the dragon blood if I get it from Mira. She might not like it, though ……”

Thinking of Mira’s reluctance to have her blood taken, I decided to think about collecting blood from wild dragons if possible.

Careless grass should be available deep in the elven forest. The purple slime is probably in a rocky magical place somewhere ……. Oh no, maybe I should study the geography first before making a request. But maybe an adventurer might know where those materials can be found. Should I throw the whole thing into the adventurer’s guild?

I don’t know how long it would take to obtain rare materials. I’m going to attack this with both my geographical knowledge and the help of the Adventurers’ Guild. I’ll have to start writing a request immediately. I hope there are adventurers who are willing to take it on.
