Chapter 27: The God of Entertainment
“Lord Julius has arrived! Salute Lord Julius!”
“Welcome, Lord Julius!”
I seemed to have become the object of outright worship within the knight order. This wasn’t what I had intended.
“I need a small piece of spare wood. May I use some?”
“Of course. Please take whatever you need.”
“Thank you.”
I used wind magic to slice a log into several round boards. Magic really was convenient; I didn’t even need a saw. It wasn’t ideal for detailed work, but this didn’t require much precision.
I smoothed one circular board, about three centimetres thick, then borrowed a brush and drew concentric rings on it, assigning points to each section.
“It’s finished.”
“What is it?”
“It’s a dartboard. You throw these blunt throwing knives at it and compete for points.”
“Throwing knives… I see.”
Lionel appeared to understand immediately. The other knights were staring at the board with obvious curiosity.
“Well then, who would like to try?”
“If I may be so bold, I would.”
“I would like to try as well.”
And so the first darts match began. We decided on the throwing distance, the knives to use, and the basic rules as we went.
For safety, they used dull knives normally meant for cutting rope, and the target was placed about five paces away.
It didn’t take long for everyone to get excited.
Knights who came looking for Lionel were drawn into the game one after another. Before long, the people who had come to retrieve the others had joined them too.
Then Father came to see what all the commotion was about—and he got dragged in as well. The day ended with Mother scolding the lot of us.
Darts spread astonishingly quickly. It reached the adventurers and then the ordinary townspeople, and before I knew it, people were calling me the ‘God of Entertainment.’
The worst part was that I wasn’t even allowed to play. Throwing knives were considered too dangerous for an eight-year-old. What kind of entertainment was this if its inventor couldn’t participate?
I needed something children could enjoy too.
Cards already existed. Chess-like board games were too complicated, and a game like Reversi would be annoying if the pieces went missing. Sugoroku, perhaps? For that, I would need dice.
“Lord Julius!”
“Mr. Abel? What brings you here at this hour?”
It was around ten in the morning. I wasn’t in training clothes; I was out inspecting the town with Gyre and Christopher.
Seeing an A-rank adventurer like Abel wandering around at this hour was unusual.
“That’s the thing—the Adventurers’ Guild is holding a darts tournament.”
I nearly fell over.

Oh dear. The darts I’d made purely for entertainment were now interfering with work at the Adventurers’ Guild.
From now on, I was going to make entertainment for children, not adults.
Karuta might be useful for teaching children their letters. If I gave the cards a local theme, tourists might even buy them.
After taking that emotional damage, I went straight home and made a simple sugoroku set and a simple karuta set. The concept was straightforward: games I could play together with my little sister.
To test them properly, I invited Gyre and Christopher, along with Lady Fabienne and Sir Edward, to House Heine. Since I wanted us to become closer friends, I also invited Lady Fabienne and Edward to stay the night.
“Um… is it truly all right for me to visit a place like this?”
Lady Fabienne’s face had gone stiff with nerves, but she was doing her best to keep a bright expression.
“Of course. I invited you to try the new games I developed, and I would be grateful to hear your impressions.”

Lady Fabienne stared at me in astonishment. And the look on her face said very clearly that she wanted one too.
At this rate, we were never going to start the games. Had I invited the wrong people? Maybe I should have introduced everyone to the games separately.

I’m really surprised dice aren’t a thing. Also there’s SO MUCH you can do with nothing but dice, it’s honestly criminal that he hasn’t considered that.
Also card games don’t have to be complicated. To simplify it for people, make a 40 card deck with 4 suits, come up with some basic things like War or Go Fish, and let people figure the rest out themselves. This kind of thing evolves on its own, so he just needs to give them the basics. It really annoys me how Isekai protags seem to be incapable of thinking about anything but directly copying stuff from Earth.
I’d say it’s probably a skill level and imagination level maybe.
With magic, the way you do things will change vs when you have to do it by hand.
Our MC, having the knowledge and cheat abilities is using his magic in a way others probably aren’t (I’m guessing).
